Oh there's a few of us. We go on 2-3 trips a year together.

The only good tire for icy/snowy roads are snow tires. I've heard wildly different opinions on Duratracs. Of course you can do that with any tire though. Tires are weird that way.

I've read a lot of tire threads, and I can say I've read way more good things about Duratracs than bad. Especially for the snow. And don't listen to meier, he's drunk. Duratrac's will handle sticks about as well as any other 2-ply tire.

255/80R17's right now. ST Maxx. Now these tires, there's a picture in the Cooper thread with a giant stick jammed into the bead, and it still ran lol. They're bomb proof. But they're also heavy as shit, and if you daily drive your truck a lot I wouldn't recommend them for that reason alone. I'll be going back to a lighter AT tire for my next set.

I had the E load on my work Tacoma and ran a touch under 30 psi most of the time. I had a few non-penetrating cuts in the sidewall and two puncture repairs in the main treadpatch. At 40k Miles they were completely done. I'd pick the Wrangler Authority over the Duratrac hands down.

If I can coax my lazy ass outside I'll snap a pic of my duratracs at just a shade under 42,000 mi. I'd give them an easy 50-60% on the tread. They've picked up a few weird vibes here and there but nothing a free balance hasn't tamed (2 balances in 42k, 4 rotations). Maybe there are such a thing as Monday morning tires...

It seems like the people who are saying they are great in the snow are in the midwest so that may have something to do with it.
