Let's say you drive 12k a year. The spread of extremes for this truck in all of the bitching and moaning threads are 16 to 22mpg. AAA says the national average for regular gas is ~$2.225.

    12000 mi / 16 mpg = 750g = $1668.75/yr = $4.57/day
    / 22 mpg = 545g = $1068.00/yr = $2.92/day

So, that means best to worst case scenarios is covered by $1.65 difference per day.

Most of us are in the middle of the two extremes and are spending $1350 annual or $3.75/day meaning that the most we can waste or save in any one day by how we drive is typically about 82 cents. Even if my math is off by a couple dollars... the difference is cheaper than a poison burger at any drive-thru.

If you only drive your truck half that distance in a year cut all the costs in half. It's pennies between flooring it or irritating everyone in traffic while you eek up to the speed limit in 3 or 4 miles trying to squeeze another nickel out of this tank. Just drive the f**king thing and drink one less latte this month.

If you drive 20k miles a year and gas money is tight you might have thought about that before you bought a $35k truck rated for a best of 21mpg right on the window but... if you didn't - and you sell your truck at a $3k loss and buy a $45k diesel with fuel prices at $2.70 average that depreciates to half it's value in 3 years to solve this problem with 25-30mpg you are a f**king idiot.

Just drive the g*ddamn thing and change the info screen to stare at your tire pressure.

I bought my truck 3 weeks ago and it already has 3000 miles on it with two road trips to Savannaha and upstate PA from DC. No problems averages about 19. I didn't buy it to commute or the mpgs.

I'll likely average 25,000 a year. My wife's car is 4 years old and almost 100k as well.

the mpg argument is valid when there is competition from other trucks. 50 bucks a month can be the difference in monthly payments from a base model to the high end.

although I agree. i dont know what people expected. The sticker says exactly what they are getting.

In my honest opinion, if you have to make a payment on a truck. You really can't afford it.

My commute to work is 67 miles one way, and my daily driver is a truck. This shows you how much I care about fuel costs (now, and potential). I'm simply two parts German, and have a fundamental need for precision in just about every aspect of my life.

Can the same be said for a mortgage on a house?

With rates so low , why not borrow at 2% ?

You are correct. Most people live in significant debt.

Yes which is why the banks took so many homes away from people.

Mortgages can be an exception in a sense because most homes are significantly more than the yearly wage of the owner and houses are an appreciable asset while vehicles are not. However, I strongly recommend people only use a 15 yr mortgage.
