This means absolutely nothing. What are you getting on a full tank of normal daily driving? I can put my tacoma 4.0 supercharged with big tires and wrong gearing in ideal conditions and get 25 to 26 if I stage it right I one short drive, downhill, wind at the back, etc

What are you getting on a full tank

Well, I've driven it 574 miles, and I'm still on the same tank of fuel. It's empty now. but the same tank. On the 333 mile trip back from picking it up, it averaged 26 miles per gallon, with the cruise set between 75 and 80. Calculating manually. The computer showed 25.1. I believe my lifetime average is around 26-28. Yesterday I got 24 on my 100 mile commute to work and back with lots of traffic. Better than the mileage, is the trans isn't shifting up and down the whole time. Smooth as butter.

I know people on this forum aren't used to their trucks getting anywhere close to the highway mileage stated on the window sticker, but this truck does. I researched it on the Canyon forums with owners that have had their trucks over10K miles, as well as on fuelly. 26 is what people seem to be getting.

The 29.5 was also over 50 miles, not a 3 mile drive, downhill, at 40 mph. If you look close, you'll see the cruise still set at 70.

Well I think I'm going to focus on a Silverado 1500 crew cab, standard box in LTX trim as our main vehicle. I do a lot of highway miles to get to hunting areas, and most of the 'off-roads' are passable by larger trucks. From what I've read, I can expect similar to better overall mileage from a full size, fully loaded Silverado as my current Tacoma. Comfy for me, more room for my gear and dogs, better range on a tank of gas..

Then I'm going to do precisely what I've done in the past- like I did with my Jeep Cherokee. I'm going to sit back and look for a 2nd gen or older Hilux where some young guy has spent HIS good hard earned money on mods I like, then has to sell it because he's flat broke. I paid $2,500 for that Jeep Cherokee with 155,000 miles, fully modded and I've got 215,000 on it now. I paid less for that Jeep than a brand new 4-wheeler.

This is the same modes operands me and my older friend use for hunting gear (decoy's etc). Wait for someone to get in a financial pickle then swoop in like an old vulture with cash and take it off his hands, lol. Kinda like a pawn shop, just we pay slightly better.

Unless you have a need for, or prefer a mid sized truck, the full sized is pretty dang comfy, and fits six people if it has the flip up console in the front. I like my truck, but if I was driving 10-15K a year, I'd might have a full size.

I'm considering trading my full size (2012 RAM 1500 Sport) for a '17 Tacoma, but I'm not sure if I'll regret it. I get abysmal gas mileage in my RAM (13-14 MPG) so even though the Tacoma doesn't have great gas mileage, it'll be a pretty solid improvement. The only other things I like about the Tacoma better are the exterior and interior looks and the manual transmission. Decisions decisions...

FYI. If you throw a lift, wheels, and tires on the new Tacoma, you will kill what fuel economy you gained. With a 2.5 inch lift and 285/70/17's I dropped to 15-16 on the highway in traffic. It was 17-18 before the lift. I think the manual owners on here are pretty happy with their decision.

Stock I was at best 18mpg. I'm at 17mpg with the Bestop folded down and a modest 1.5" lift with the Bilstein 6112/5160 and AAL combo.

I never saw the EPA 'mileage' estimates on my Tacoma. Ever.

I would probably throw the TRD wheel on there, but not change the size. Maybe possibly a small lift at some point, but I like the 17's how there are for the most part so I might never do that.

MPG is never a really big selling point to me, but it's always to have i guess. I'm more into the look and manual transmission with the Tacoma. If the Taco only came in an automatic, I wouldn't even consider it. I'd probably go Tundra.

The 8 speed is an excellent transmission. It takes about 10k miles for it to learn and break in they say, which mine did. You get it on any engine 2016/17 1500 now. Mine doesn't hunt at all on the highway. It will climb a reasonable hill in 8th and just needs to unlock the torque converter. It's a very smooth ride. With the 6.2 I average about 22 on the highway now that I have 15k miles. 18 around town.

Yep this new powertrain leaves something to be desired, not even close to EPA estimates. Besides the interior and a few other little things Toyota really droppped the ball on this new taco, and don't even start with me I've owned 5 of all gens and types for those that want to argue.

50 miles is nothing. Your 500 mile tank is impressive.

Fuelly shows national average at 25 so your other numbers are pretty good.

If I completely fill my tank, 24 gallons, my truck will say I can go 525 or so miles.

Here's my reality- 18/23/20 is what the Tacoma was rated with the AT. I was thinking I would get more 16/21/18.. Knock it a little because it's Montana..

    I'm getting 18/15/16.5.

The Silverado we drove last night has the 6.2. However it's not the crew cab- it's a double cab.

I frankly don't care because I'm not the one who has to ride in the back, but my wife seems to think it's important to get the crew cab.

I think I'd rather have the 6.2 powerplant, personally.

100 mile commute to work, ya I would be all about fuel mileage, shit I would have the best mpg vehicle I could get my hands on, and keep my taco for fun driving.
