Bestop camper shells

I think some of you have this canvas style camper shell and I need some personal experience....

I want a temp shell for my truck that I can take on and off whenever I want. How easy is it to install and take off when I am not using it. I know it folds down but can I just take the unit off the bed of the truck to store when I dont need it?

The main reason I want it is to sleep in the back of the truck when I am hunting and camping. How water proof is it in the rain. I am a duck hunter that has been out in 30 mph wind and heavy rain. Will I stay dry if i am sleeping in it at night in these conditions??????

I heard there was another brand called Canvasback or something that is twice the price (I found the Bestop for $600) but I really dont want to spen $1000+ on a canvas camper shell. I can buy a hard top shell for that amount but I want a quality canvas shell that I will stay dry in.

i want one of these too and i have been searching the same stuff and from what i have found it will handle anything you can throw at it and they are 98% water tight from what i have heard it leaks a little in the corners ware the ziper is on the back and the best top does come off and fairly easy apparently idk about the canvasback tho

 

I really like mine and would say its 99% water tight, I have never taken it down but it looks pretty simple

 

If you watch the video on the Bestop site they show it being removed. It looks to be a two person job per the video but it looks like you just pull some pins or something and it comes completely off.

If you are in Canada how does it hold up to snow? Is it able to carry the weight of snow that piles up on top? Do you have that problem?

it holds the snow good its a pretty tight top and thick good quality material and I pressure wash it once a week and it looks new, youll be happy with it if you decide to buy one

 

It comes off and goes on in about 5-10 minutes. Easy two person job!

I have the bestop supertop.you have 4 Clevis pins and the whole top comes off.the flat brackets stay on the bed sides but are not in the way

 

I have the Softopper canvas top and I put it on by myself..no biggy.

 

I've also been thinking of one for camping, but I have a retractable aluminum tonneau already: http://www.peragon.com/

I was thinking I might be able to fasten down the supertop rails to the tonneau rails somehow (a bolt with a really thin head coming up through the tonneau rail...). It shouldn't affect the supertop as far as I can tell because nothing is sliding there, but I'm worried about the fact they will be mounted a little narrower than the actual bedrails...

Anybody ever tried something like this?

 

I purchased the Supertop and it's still in the box (to cold still). I also have a Bakflip 4 panel tonneau that can be removed by unbolting 2 bolts at the cab end then lift it off. This will then leave the 2 Bakflip side rails in place on top of the plastic rails. I was hoping to install the Bestop rails on top of the Bakflip rails clamping it using the stock Supertop clamps. I'll post picks when I get it done.
