I'm looking to do the same. Going to get the 174bh Baja and get rid of the pop up.

I feel that it does great, but that's with an understanding that's it's a V6 that makes power higher in the rpm band. I have no problem maintaining speed limits up 7% grades loaded around 3500lbs with water. Most travel is 60-65mph in 4th gear at about 2600rpm. It will hold 5th on flat terrain with no headwind at about 2000 rpm. Occasionally on long steep hills the auto trans will shift down to 3rd to maintain speed. I usually bring my speed back to 55mph if in 3rd and run about 3500rpm to conserve fuel. we just towed that trailer from Phoenix through Tahoe up to Bend OR and down the coast highway and I have no complaints! A mid size truck would of course be better for towing but a midsize will never 4wheel like my taco.
I do run ride rite airbags, daystar cradles, curt WDH and a tekansha p3. I feel very safe and in controll of this trailer.
I will say that on I'm still on stock size tires for towing purposes and will upgrade to 255 85r16 only after regearing to 4:88. It's a little low for that tire but should help me hold 5th more easily with the trailer.
    Hope that helps!

Excellent post. Thanks for the information. What does your trailer weigh?

It's 3100lb dry. I haven't weighed it yet but guessing close to 3600 with the generator, water gear ect.

Being wary of first year technology I got a 2015 for towing. Good to hear that the 3rd generation Tacoma is working.

I bought a Lexus LS in 1989, first year, for that very reason. I gambled on Toyota doing all their checks and QC on a first year intro and getting it right so years following were marketable.

Then maybe put that in the backpacking thread instead of the truck camping thread...

Trucks parked 15 miles back at the highway. Does that can't? You have to admit its a cool pic.

Congratulations. You can hike. So can I and probably 90% of TW members. Got any pics of you camping in your truck?

Here is a photo from a couple days ago. My dog looking out while I sleep comfortably under my electric heated blanket in the RTT. The other one is my buddy's rig and his brand new RTT.

Hike? Thats a glacier with a 5.7 final summit. I doubt there are many members on TW familiar with crampons, glacier traversing, crevasse rescue, rope teams, and trad climbing in mountaineering boots.

As far as pics this is all I have til I get home.

Uh, that sounds like fun! I had to rappel a cliff using my winch a couple days ago to recover a fallen drone. Totally different but still fun. But I love glaciers and the dangers they come with.

I don't want to derail the thread more than it is but here are some glaciers and a huge crevasse off Mt Baker.

I spent 3+ weeks on the matanuska glacier in alaska I know a thing or two about glacier travel, aside from all my time spent climbing rock

this forum has a lot of ice climbers as well as rock climbers....

still haven't had my first shot at mixed climbing and dry tooling though.
