That's correct it's a hawse fairlead with synthetic. It's a huge weight savings but I'm keeping my fingers crossed it last with the extreme UV we get in Phoenix. That scrunchy bit on the end is supposed to protect the exposed part. I still intend to get some more pics but been busy.

Not really a mod but a discovery I guess. I love the daystar cradles and ride rite combo but the rattling of the free floating bags hitting the cradles over bumpy terrain was driving me nutso! I had a friend depress the Schrader valve while I squeezed the air out of the bags. Now there is a vacuum in them and they stay out of the way until I need them again! Quiet as a mouse now!

Taco Adcentures!!! Here's a ton of pics of our trip down the Oregon and California coast! The Tacoma did a great job towing. I intend to do a small write up on my opinion of the Taco's towing ability after pulling our trailer about 3K miles.

I'll try to keep the vacation photos out and keep it more Tacoma and destination based!20161008_105134.jpgLoaded up and leaving Phoenix!

Looks good dude. I still need to get a new locking hitch pin for mine. The one I got was about a 1/4" too short.

Thanks man. I'm using the masterlock one, It fits well. For some reason Toyotas 2" recievers are just a little beefier than every one else's :militarypress:

I got tired of that rusty pipe hanging off the side of my sweet truck. I only did the muffler back since I can't see the rest without getting under there anyway:crapstorm:. I'm happy with the outcome.

Process was simple. There are 2 bolts that hold the muffler to the cat section and 4 rubber hangers. Remove pipe, clean any grease or oil and sand. For love of God use high temp primer and paint such as VHT. I also wrapped the tip in a towel to protect it from scratches while lining it back up.

I wasn't too worried but I still checked the temp on the muffler before and after coating. I let it idle 5 mins then checked. Minimal change and it was warmer in the day by the second check. I know that's not a very scientific test but good enough for me lol.

I added a pole so help me pick a tire that will improve off-road performance without killing towing performance. All opinions welcome!!!

A Re-Gear is on the table but probably not for a while.

I AVG about 12k miles a year on the truck.

Here are the cooper's I've been looking at. I've added the OD and tread widths in inches per cooper's website.

    255 85 r16 st maxx (32.8 X 8.15 59lbs)
    265 75 r16 st maxx (32.01 X 8.46 54lbs)

    265 75 r16 st pro (31.89 X 8.43 54lbs)

I like the 255 85 16s on this truck. Could be considered one of those cases where less is more.

    What load rating?

All 3 of those tires are load range E. The ST maxx is very renowned in the overland community especially in the 255 85 r16 size. I really like "pizza cutter" look as well.

On the other hand the 265 st maxx is a true 32" but still .8" shorter and 5lbs lighter.

I'd rather go with the 255s based off of appearance but I don't want to be stuck at 45 mph pulling the trailer uphill either. I wish I could rent a set for a day of testing lol.

Picked up an air wedge to keep in the truck. Its usefull for deflating the airbags as well as a few other things. It's pretty much impossible to lock keys in my truck but might be able to help out a fellow motorists.

I have never seen this before. Watched a video of a tow truck driver use two on a door and he just reached in a tool and unlocked the door. Interesting that you can use it with your airbags. Thing must be pretty tough.
