What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Well, after almost 4 weeks of carrying around an extra 400 pounds, the AALs have not settled at all. The only noticeable result was a loss of fuel economy. Without any ballast the truck still sits ~2.5" higher than stock, and I get a driveshaft vibration that wasn't there before when starting from a stop. I tried an OME carrier bearing shim kit and considered keeping the extra height, but the vibes only go away when I load the truck and it goes down an inch. Wheeler's has offered me a discount on a stainless 3-degree shim set, and I think I'll give it a try before throwing in the towel. If this takes care of the vibrations, I will give the AALs until spring to settle some more, and if they don't I'll add 1" of lift to the front via the Toytec Baja-specific spring seat spacer and some UCAs.

Anyway, I finished my exhaust crossover relocation with some POR15 hi-temp coating and 2 bolt-on heat shields. Came together well, and I just need to get the transfer skid bolted back on.

 

Question for those of you who have painted your radiator black or any other color...

Seems like ever since I did mine in the summer, I seem to be getting wind noise while driving around 40-50 mph. But when I go above, it goes away.

Bugs the heck out of me that I don't know what or why that is. Could having painted the radiator caused it?!

 

Whatever that thing is, that's right in behind the grille, so it wouldn't stick out as much. Not clogging it up since my temp didn't change, but making a bit of noise.

 

Is there even such a thing??!!

I used specific high temp spray paint.

Good shit right here. Possibly whistling because blinker fluid is low. Or muffler bearings squealing/whistling

Did you relocate your horn when you painted your radiator?

 

Replaced the dead 13 month old factory battery today. Cleaned the terminals and applied dielectric grease to every square inch of anything remotely electrical upon installation. Also had a nice cleanup on the plastic battery tray...haven't seen a battery ooze like that in a long time. YAY for skimping on the one item that really pisses people off when it goes prematurely. She now oozes reliability again instead of battery juice!

 

I sure did. Could it be wind through the holes then??!!
