Motorcycle on truck bed

I was wondering whether a Yamaha R6 will fit on the back of a double cab tacoma?

 

What size bed?

If it is the extended bed then yes, if not it will fit but only with the tailgate down.

I found this "Compact Ready Ramp" on ebay and the item is great. It works both as a tailgate extender and motorcycle ramp. Works great for my 02 R6.

Looks like Tacomas and R6's are popular together. I got a 2001 R6. I might even take mine to the track next year.

Should fit fine with the the tailgate down. I have a DC and fit two GSXR 600 side by side nicely. Thanks to the suspension TSB it handled the weight just fine.

 

It will be the DC with the short bed.

Warchi do you have the extended or short? Also, do you guys with the short bed find any inconvenience with the short bed i.e, it didn't my so and so.....etc.

 

I fit a 500 Enduro in the shortbed. Obviously the tail gate has to be down. Has to be sideways if I want the bed extender on, so I dont bother.

Added front D rings to the bed as I would not trust the plastic movable cleats. Also put a plank of wood down for rear wheel to help distribute the weight on the rather weak tailgate.

 

So the final verdict is that I CAN fit an R6 in a DC short bed correct? I just have to turn it side ways and get a bed extender.

I might be getting it quite soon, so I just wanted to be sure.

 

Yes I have a short bed. No inconvenience with the short bed for me. I haul two bikes up to NH off and on and works great. I don't have a bed extender just keep the tail gate down. Its a tight fit but works for me.

 

I have an 08 DC and an 03 R6 with no problems either (TG has to be down though). I don't trust the rail system too much, but no problems though. I'm going to add D-rings very soon to tie it down to rather than use the railing system. HTH

 

Hate to dig up an old thread, but how is walking up the bike with a ready ramp?

Are you using a separate ramp for you to walk up next to the bike? I ask this because the Ready Ramp looks a tad narrow for a street bike.

 

Has anyone bent or messed up the tailgate hauling their bike. I keep hearing about how weak it is. I have an access cab and just remove my tailgate when I haul my R1. I'm thinking about a double cab in the next year though, would be great to have some tailgate feedback.

 

Yeah... I've heard the newer tailgates aren't as strong as the older models, much to the surprise of the newer truck owners.

When I have something large to haul (riding lawn mower), I drive into the ditch at a 90 degree angle from the road.

When the front wheels are up in the air, the tailgate is able to touch the ground. I then just drive the lawn mower into the box.
No ramp needed.
I already know the delivered location has a ramp for unloading. Have to plan ahead.

 

I have an 08 AccessCab 4cyc with an 07 R6s in the bed, never any problems. I installed two D ring hooks in the bed and under the bed mounted them in with some metal plates because I feared the plastic bed would break...i also wouldnt trust just the rail system to keep the bike up.

 

With the 5' bed you will have to have the taligate down, no way around that. With the 6' bed you can fit it completely inside the bed with no weight on the tailgate but the tailgate won't close. If you put it in at an angle the tailgate will close but I wouldn't reccomend that. It's much more secure straight in. So the answer to your question is yes.

 

i have a 01 katana stretched 7" and it fits, barely, but it fits with the tailgate down

truck is a 01 also

 

i have a long bed and my gsxr doesnt fit with the tailgate up.short by 2-3 inches
