    Hey was wondering if any one knows about how much i would have to drop to convert my 2002 pre runner into 4wd.

    Yea i plan on doing it all id rather be the one doing it incase something goes wrong. but it doesn't seem like to much work.

    Because it's not. Just have to find the right places to get these parts. Everything is meant to be bolt on so modification isn't really a factor besides the crossmember

    It's not the parts that make it complicated or expensive so much as it is putting it all together and the labor cost involved if you are unable or not equipped to do it yourself. If you take it to a shop, the labor alone could cost twice as much as what you paid to source the parts. I think it's only worth doing if you can do most of the work yourself, otherwise I'd just sell your current truck and use the money as a down payment on a 4x4.

    The labor is not really the issue. mostly the time it will take but i have another truck. but from what ive been reading on other forums that its better to convert. well cheaper anyway. i like my truck way to much to sell it now.

    Like Anthony said above, if you have the parts, tools and know-how it can be done in a day. Everything should bolt up

    IFS = independent front suspension (how all stock 4x4 Tacomas are equipped)

    SAS = solid front axle swap, aka totally awesome

    expensive, yeah probably. It really comes down to how well you want to do it but going SAS involves way more fabrication (cutting and customizing). Going to IFS should just be all bolt-on, since the Prerunners are already built on a 4x4 (IFS) frame.

    Not sure what you mean, IFS uses 2 independent axles each coming from the front diff whereas SAS uses one straight axle. If you go SAS you have to source a solid front axle from an older vehicle that had one.
