I just bought a 2017 SR 4x2 DCSB MSRP: $25,900... Drove off the lot at $22,750. And that was with the "Extended Waranty" of 7/100,000 Miles. Granted it did not come with the tow package.

    SR or SR5?

Do you not have to pay a % sales tax? seems crazy to get that much off.

Sorry, Didn't think about the tax... $24,282 was the price after sales tax. Gotta love 6.75%. And take into consideration where I am at... not a lot of people in my area want a "basic" Tacoma. A lot of rich people buying TRD's for their 16 year old children haha

Late to the party, bought it in September. Got it to $41,000 OTD with military discount and some negotiations. Not nearly as good as some other people got but for Southern California I consider it a fair deal. I haven't had any of the common problems others have experienced besides the ATF being a quart and a half low. Had it checked and filled to the correct level before I took it off the lot.

Why would anyone ever care about what the tax was? Completely variable per state/county/city and fixed....can't compare what everyone else's "OTD" price is to someone else's if you're including tax. The deal you want to compare against others is on the vehicle and vehicle related costs.

What drove the MSRP up to 42,170? My vehicle is the same basic configuration as your with same options (less running boards and bed extender, but plus tonneau cover, mudguards and wheel locks) and my MSRP was 39,903.

Out The Door Price includes EVERYTHING. It's the amount you wrote the check for, title, tax, Reg, Imspection Sticker, EVERYTHING.

Sure taxes vary from State to State, doesn't matter, it's How Much You Wrote The Check For to Get it OTD.

I also assumed everyone was giving real OTD numbers (tax, dealer fee and plate) but apparently on TW OTD = price paid for the car without any fees attached.

Ok, I didn't know that's what it's called. I do get the free 2 yr fre maintenance. I don't have it as a charge on my sticker. Unless it's added to the base sticker price. Mine is $33,770, 17 Sport 4X4 AC.

I mixed and matched mine, that's why I named it: The MUTANT TACO. I probably won't ever do much off roading, if any, but I really like the black fender flares and front valance on the OR. So I dipped them, now I really Love It!

You definitely got a great deal. Truck looks wicked!

Again what is the point of comparing OTD costs? It's not relevant to anyone not living in the same state/county/city. Share your price paid less TTL so people can compare against and find out what is or is not a good deal. A guy who's tax exempt posting an OTD cost thousands lower than every else does nothing but give a person bragging rights. No one else can compare against it. It's not rocket science.

    @Scooby24 is right.

Differences in tax costs can hide or reveal a good deal. Without it zeroed-out or itemized, people here are unable to compare apples to apples.

    Example:
    Person A pays $35,000 + $2450 tax (7%) for a truck, total = $37,450.
    Person B pays $36,069 + $0 tax (0%, lucky Oregon jerk) for a truck, total = $36,069.

By some of the logic I am reading above, Person B got the better deal on the truck, but it simply isn't true. Yes, Person B paid less overall, but actually paid more for the truck. Person A got a better deal on the truck, so new Person C from a different state reading this thread can now inquire at Person A's dealership in hopes of seeking the best deal. Because that's the damn point of the gorram thread....

Yup. I was stressing over the prices in this thread for a quick moment before I realized this. I got well under MSRP but with 6% Michigan sales tax, all of a sudden my out the door price cannot compare.

So I am content knowing my deal is in the range I wanted.

If you have to pay taxes, especially high taxes, use that to your advantage and leverage it to lower your overall OTD price. Do your damndest to get them to pay TTL.

I prefer to measure a deal by how much I'm saving (how much can I get them under invoice). Because every dealership is a little different and at the end of the day they aren't giving away free trucks, so you have push them to find the level of loss they're willing to take.

Because if they aren't at least losing something you're not winning. Get them below 600-800 invoice, minimum.

Use local dealer competition against them. I can't tell you how many other dealerships Tacomas I researched, prices/deals, and brought up throughout haggling.

Your best deal is going to come from a large, reputable Toyota dealer on the last Saturday of the month of Nov or December; when they're crunching quotas and just pushing sales. That's when they'll most likely take acceptable losses on invoice.

That's the best way to tackle it. Know the Tacoma market within a 300 mile radius of your location. Determine the bottom line top dollar you will spend on the Tacoma and aim at a MSRP $3-5k over that line and pull them down to it.

That's the best advice I can come up with, because you can't look at raw #s exclusively.

So in your calculations you're also not including Doc Fees and/or admin fees. Those also vary greatly.

For example my Doc Fee was $95. I've seen some for $900

Out the Door mean Out the Door. I could say I paid $2,450 under dealers invoice price, but that's not what I wrote the check for, it included taxes, title, Reg, Sticker, etc...

Funny cause I just took it to a shop to get my windows tinted and Eyebrow done. Paperwork says: 2017 TRD Pro. Hahahaha, I got a good laugh out that one.

I did include it. Logically in the "truck" total. I forgot to type, "all else being equal". I meant the "truck" cost included everything except TTL (sorry)

For the record I prefer that is all itemized in a post about what somebody paid, since then everyone can compare all apples to all apples.

The one thing we are not including here is a trade, which can throw off this whole shebang. I think the only apples to apples comparisons possible are similar financing, no trade, fees/extras itemized, and TTL itemized.
