255/85/16s or 285/75/16?

    Which size do you think would look better? I like the skinny but tall look of the 255, but I dont know how much taller they would be than the 285s. I have spidertrax wheel spacers so 285s are an option, but I would like height more than width. Thanks!

    Since ive had both, id say 285's just because i didnt like the skinny look.

    Still wondering if I wont like 285s because they might stick out more than I'd like. I liked the look of the 255s though, just my opinion

    I'm running 255's on stock wheels. I like the height and don't mind the 'pizza cutter' look from the width of the tire, I'd just prefer more backspacing from the wheel so the stance would be a little wider. Spacers would help that but then I'm not sure if you'd have more rubbing issues. Not much help for you, I know. I can say this...waaaayy more options in the 285 size then the 295.

    i would go with the 285's, they just in general look and ride better in my humble and correct opinion.

    I like both. I think it just comes down to needs and preference. I've considered going both ways.

    There must be a damn good reason why all the genuine "expedition" vehicles in Africa and Australia are running tall and skinny. They take those vehicles hundreds of miles from anything and literally bet their lives on those pizza slicers. Personally, if I was to go the tall/skinny route, I'd complete the safari/hunting look with roof racks, lights, jerry cans, etc.

    Obviously, the 285's are very popular. Everybody is rolling them with minimal complaints. But... Just because every mall crawler, Jeep, and Soccer Mom SUV has them does not necessarily make them better.

    There are two philosophies on which provide more traction. Float on top vs. penetrate down to a solid surface. I've heard arguments and read articles that logically support both.

    The 255's have about 3 models on the market to choose from. The 285's have about 100 models to choose from.

    jhodge83, thank you for the quote in your sig. I actually added to it in another post. It was something along the lines of "Sport for show, Off Road for go, SR5 for those low on dough, and X-Runner, hell no!

    One of the X-Runner people gave me some flack for it though.:eek: Sorry.

    Here is what I am looking at...
    I have a 01 Double Cab V6 Prerunner..
    Eibach Front coil springs in the front
    And either AAL or blocks in the back.

    Will I be able to fit 255s?

    yeah they should you may have to do the pinch weld mod, but you will have no prob with them rubbing on anything else cause they are actually skinnier the the stock 265/70 by a little.
