Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2

Considered a SUV tire from what I can see but would they be ok for a Tacoma? Weight wise etc.
I was originally planning on going with the Toyo Observe LT rated but I'm being offered the Nokian's at a better price and they've got great reviews. So would they be ok or would I need the LT rated ones?

Looking at a 265 75 16.

Is you Tacoma an SUV?

Help with answer: no its a pickup truck.

Those tires are SUV winter tires.... good ones, look for a LT (light truck) winter tire or an AT tire IMHO.

 

I agree with this thought on most things but this brand is absolutely amazing, the best tires in the world

 

If you are looking for winter tires those are arguably the best you can buy.

 

I suspect they'll be just fine. The weight of the Taco is not too far different from the weight of the average SUV. In fact, while my Taco is 4305lb stock, my last SUV was heavier, at 4623lb.

I actually ran these exact tires on my last SUV ('06 ML350 4Matic AWD), but in the 19" version. I only had them in the snow two times, and have to say I wasn't crazy about them. Both times the snow was hard and frozen, with icy bits mixed in. Not quite a sheet of ice, but not hard-packed or fresh-fall snow, either. Both times the SUV struggled a bit.

My previous experience w/ snow tires (on different vehicles - Michelin X-Ice, Nitto SN2, Blizzacks) was much better, but admittedly, I don't think I even used those (other) tires in the same exact conditions, so it's not an apples-to-apples comparison.

Except light truck rated is often for half ton or bigger. And the tacoma is a mid sized not far off from a 4runner.
Hey the tire shop knows what is going on and they offered me those so.
Like @0210 said he had them on an suv which was heavier than a tacoma.

Don't get me wrong I see your point but if the load rating meets the same weight class. Should be ok.

That's what the sales guy told me. And at $700 out the door not a bad deal. including install free flat repair and pro rated warranty
Michelin x ice and blizzak would both cost me more

I had xice two times now. Love them in all conditions. Prefer them to blizzak and had a set last me 4 years. Love em but I'm told the Nokian are even better and it's about $40 cheaper.

Nokian makes excellent Winter tires. If you can get the Hakkspeliitta R2's for a good price then go for it.

To the OP: probably best studless tires you can buy right now. I debated R2 vs Hakka 8 (studded). Going for the studded overkill, getting them mounted Friday.

 

Nokians are legit. I think they opened up a second factory outside Finland, in Russia. You can debate quality of tire just as easily as quality of Tacoma (Texas plant versus Mexico plant). I wouldn't think there would be an appreciable difference, but all the same I'd prefer the Finnish-made Nokian.

 

$700 out the door is a steal. Get on that!

I was quoted $180/corner installed for R2 in stock size (265/70/16) here on MA/NH border, so $720. Hakka 8 are only $5 more per corner.

 

I've ran the previous version of the R2 for 5 years now, pretty awesome tire. Decided to go whole hog for the wife's '16 and put the H8 SUVs on since she drives twice as far and in town. She absolutely loves them, and so far seldom has to use 4x even leaving intersections. We run a winter tire for almost half the year, and the Nokians are all we use anymore. That's a good price!

 

anyone know of a good place in Colorado Springs area that have Nokians in stock?
