What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

If you haven't done the following recently, I suggest:

Spark plugs & wires
timing belt (if you have one)
water pump & related parts
PCV valve
replace brake fluid
replace trans fluid
replace gear oil in trans, t-case, diffs
power steering fluid
fuel filter
clean TB
clean MAF sensor
grease zerk fittings
inspect balls joints and replace if needed
u-joints
carrier bearing

All that comes to mind right now. I'm working on that list myself, since I am at 175K. I did a little over half of them during the Spring. Looking to do most if not all of the rest next year.

 

Thanks guys I believe I hit just over 198,000 today. My idle at startup (not all the time) recently starts to get a bit rough around 570-600 rpms. No cels and ultragauge doesn't detect any codes. Curious to know what this is related to...
Also don't seem to hear any vacuum leaks.

I had the same thing before I did the 100K tune up...it made a huge difference in the way the truck sounded and operated, especially with all OEM shit. I bet your rough idle would go away with the items listed above or at least narrow the culprits

 

I'm with you on that. As long as it's running with no codes I'm good for the time being.

 

Cleaned the MAF, cleaned the throttle body, replaced spark plugs, replaced spark plug wires, replaced fuel filter.

Next week, I'm replacing the vacuum lines.

 

I personally like it, I picked it over the ultragauge only because you can change the colors and it offered trans temp readings.

The problem is that they never figured out the programming to display the trans temp so we actually can't use that feature. Knowing that I woulda probably opted for the cheaper ultraguage.

I do like how this one is compact and I can fit it where it's at. There isn't much space for gadgets in these trucks.

 

that seems low... mine is 700- 750 rpm and smooth to the point I have to look at the tac to know it is still running...it will run 800-900 rpm (and a touch over 1k if it is below 0*f out) for the first 30 sec or so at cold start...

no codes showing at the moment and 270,xxx miles...

 

You're only at 800-900 with a cold start? Mine goes upwards up 1500rpm and over the next few minutes goes down from there until it hits that 750ish mark.

 

Yeah I know it is, enough to shake the truck a bit. When I started it from work it was 750-800. When I started it here about an hour ago it was at 600. It's only at start up; if I'm idle at a light it's normal. No codes.

I can actually hear my truck, it's supercharged.

 

What others have said, plus valve cover gaskets. It'll give you a chance to replace and clean a good amount, plus check valve clearance.

I got mine from eBay, they've got a ton of sellers with all oem components. I'll see if I can find what I got, but it was a few years ago.

The X-code programming for the trans temps only works on newer 1st gens. '98 and newer IIRC.

I thought that was normal? ...although mine did run 1200 or so at startup at first before I replaced the plugs, wires, o2 sensor, and cats ...
