I'm the same way. I get insomnia sometimes, so on Monday I was in the tree an hour before first shooting light haha. Little bit of dozing in the stand that day.

The only problem I have is I have an incredibly difficult time staying still for long periods of time, so sitting in a stand for extended periods of time is a huge chore for me. The longest I've ever sat is probably 2 hrs. In the mornings, I get in the stand about an hour before daylight, but after 2 hrs, I've got to get up and move somewhere else. The afternoons are better because I can just leave once it gets dark.

I've been reading up on spot-and-stalk hunting, which I think I would love, but I know it's significantly harder because you have to be so quiet. Anyone ever do that?

Spot and stalk is most hunting out west. Whitetail hunting is my least favorite type of hunting as it usually involves sitting on a stand.

When I talk about meat quality, my brother in law comes to mind. Here is a picture of his returning from deer camp this weekjustin deer.jpg .

It's a bit too warm in Arkansas to have a deer in the sun for hours, after it's been hanging around in camp all day. Nice buck though.

Yeah, I'd imagine spot and stalk would be hard in the woods with leaves all over the ground. I want to build a big stand that I can move around freely in...that'd be perfect.

I only hunt on our land or our neighbor's land, so the deer is usually in the cooler within an hour of being shot.

If Im on a climber I stand up slowly and stretch...when you have to be absolutely still is when the deer are right on top of you. You can move around slowly when they are further out. Spot and stalk is tough for me as theres 360degree exits for deer to run, lots of woods and hills. Best for me is ambush them coming through.

Sitting here in a box blind, listening to 20 mph winds whip past. No deer today. Had 6 toms walk in on me this morning and 4 were shooters with beards to the ground! Never happens in the spring, lol.

Tomorrow is opening day for regular season here, due to having a CPR class I'll have to go Sunday morning and I'm taking 2 13 year olds with me, I'm gonna let them use rock paper scissors to decide who gets the shot if we are presented with one.
Pretty excited about this season, been doing a lot of dirt work on our property and deer love fresh dirt, and I'll be able to setup overwatch with a great vantage point of the creek and open field I've been finding tracks in.

IMG_5889.jpg Two freezer does down. Very glad for the dry conditions and for having a little truck to get back 3 miles on the two-track so I didn't have to drag them out.
