If the bolt is rusted to the metal bushing, its not going to hinge downward without soaking it. I lucked out and got new LCA's about 6 months later with the frame replacement. I see yours is a 14, I guess its possible for it to seize that fast if you see a lot of salt.

 

I wouldn't recommend excessive force, I ended up flattening the alignment tabs on my drivers side. Let that lube soak in, and I bet she frees up.

 

Truth. They have coilovers shocks, not struts.

I have a 2006 and want to install the front shocks, but I bet those bolts are frozen and doubt I will be able to remove them, even with PB Blaster.

 

I bet if you soak the ever-living shit out of everything in the days leading up (I mean really soak) then you'd have a pretty solid shot.

 

We know what the OP is talking about but you're not correct in saying they are struts. They are not struts. 1 -Your truck has an upper control arm correct? A vehicle using struts would not. 2- the coil over is attached and rests on the LCA, it is not attached to the steering knuckle as a strut would be.

 

I just picture myself starting the removal, like that video shows and not be able to get them installed, then not be able to get the old ones back on because I had to sawzall them, so end up getting it towed or have to pay someone to come over and fix.

 

Do yours look visibly rusted or seized? Or is everything in there pretty clean?

 

I have been using Fluid Film for the last 2 years religiously, so honestly it's hard to tell, maybe all that sheep's wool would help the removal?

 

I say go for it! If you start the install and can't get the LCA's loosened up, then just stop right there.

 

I think I have watched every Youtube video on shock installation and search every thread on TW and I'm still not comfortable tackling this, but the video make it seem doable.

 

Yeah I think I would need to plan on a whole day, because when I leave extra time, problems seem a lot smaller and there are less of them too.

 

It is SO easy. I was intimidated too, but I just had a more mechanically inclined friend there as a second set of hands and to provide any guidance I needed, but really he was there for moral support.

Or you can do what my other buddy did, and hosted a mod day and 5 of us all tackled the suspension on his truck. Having more people tends to help.

 

Yeah, there is a confidence factor here and when you have someone there that has done this, it's HUGE!
