I'm curious how low I can go before popping the bead..... my next set of tires I'm going with those scs beadlockers.... or have beadlockers installed on the TRD off road wheels that are in my shed. I think these Toyos are killing at least 2mpg off my milage... I'll try those MTR's next time around...

Any recommendations for a high clearance rear bumper? looking at 4x innovation, cbi, and pelfreybilt.

Damn, nice catch. I also considered the price difference and it's not a big deal over new. I used to have some Ultra 168s in a 4.0 BS, and I recall them working really well. So now I'm stuck between:
    F5, with a 3.5" BS and a lower price
SR8, with a 4.0" BS, but a higher price and the fakelock that I think is going to take a lot of beatings.

Anything else I'm missing before I do more dumb things? :D

Pretty sure @Benson X was on MTRs... ? He has good in depth opinions

Did they actually have a date on when they were coming out with those new SCS rims? I'm not looking at them myself, but I thought there was a long time until they release.

I've been down to something like 8 or 10 on just standard rims, and it's unsettling to think about :p

    Things to watch for:
    • recovery points (make sure they are there, they are strong, and they can hold an oversize pin)
    • do you want to add offroad reverse fogs?
    • pay a lot of attention to the hitch receiver. Can you fit a locking pin if you wanted? Can you fit a stinger in there without an extension? Where are the safety hooks attached?
    • Does the gate rattle?
    • How is the gate closed, can you lock it, how does it hold open, can the gate open 180 degrees and be held there, or just 90 degrees?
    • how does the body lines of the bedsides match to the bumper? Primarily, how does the fender flare flow into the bumper? Might be a big thing if you are cosmetically OCD

Thanks for the tips! I won't go for the tire carrier so the rattling and opening concerns are moot heh.

    Relentless fab.

If I did it over again I'd go with a relentless. His bed side protection is the best, quality is amazing, and Eric can do custom requests (within reason). I wouldn't go cbi for one reason, you are cutting your bed sides yet not getting the most clearance. I believe for them you cut it 5" below the tail light where the rest are at the tail light. But they do make quality stuff. Also relentless has 20% right now..

I wasn't a huge fan of the relentless style... But I know they have good stuff. I noticed that about cbi too, the cut is lower, but the high clearance part is also slimmer, but actual numbers would be nice heh. I don't worry so much about the clearance immediately behind the tire, it's how far the rear most portion sticks out, which is why I am considering the 4x innovation one... But even with that one I'm not in love with the design heh.

In my opinion I just don't think it's worth cutting the bed sides for minimal clearance gain.. I'd want the most clearance which is why I went with 4x innovations. It is really well made and you can look at Dakota's or mine any time you want. It did save me from bashing a tail light out on time though

You can build one yourself. It took me a week for a couple hours a day, some beers and about $300 Mine is very similar to the 4x one. The reason I like it is the same as Brian stated... it's a true HC bumper. If your going to hack your bed apart then get the most practicality out of a low profile bumper. 4x is also the best bang for the bucks setup IMO...if your have the dough then buy pelfrey.....

I have an sos off-road concepts high clearance en route right now. I will take some pictures when it arrives and of the install. Still trying to mentally prepare myself for cutting the bed. When you guys did yours, where did you get the piece of plastic/rubber that slips over the cut edge? Something like this. I figured I'd find something walking around Home Depot long enough.

Yup. I do wish I had side protection.. But its definitely the heaviest of the bumpers, all 1/4" steel.

Oreilly's. Just some door edge guard

Just use the cheap door stuff, since it's a straight line it holds just fine. You don't want to use it for the fenders because it heats up and falls off.
