Just took my 2016 limited 4X4 in for the 20k service. Took a copy of your T-SB-0077-16 with me and asked them to perform the update . The service advisor claimed to have never seen it before . They did the update and it drives great! It solved the hard shifts and the hunting at highway speeds . Thanks to you all for the great information because I would have just endured the problems without your help and research .

Had my truck back to the dealer I purchased it from today, Larry Miller Toyota, they said no update has ever been performed on the trucks software. I had the first TSB update done a week after the release in July, well apparently not, stay far away from Toyota of Surprise, they are lying asshats. I had my truck back in a couple of weeks ago and asked that the fluid level be checked, they claimed to have checked it and found it a half quart low. They are full of it, I didn't mark my fill plug to see if it was even removed, shouldn't have to, but lesson learned. The latest revised update was performed, and the radio reboot problem was also taken care of, the truck shifts much cleaner now, time will tell if the problems return. I'm calling Toyota regarding the lies from Toyota Of Surprise and filing a complaint with the BBB.

software update for the radio. Mine would reboot itself over and over again after about 2 hours of driving.

I had the new update/ecu recslibration done on Tuesday. I drove 3 hours to FL and have been driving around in town. I couldnt tell much of an update back in July. My truck had recently started holding the rpm's when going up an incline. It would take anywhere from 1-3 seconds to shift out of 4th into 5th after cresting the top of the hill, even with my foot completely off the accelerator. I also noticed my mpg's had gone down. The first tsb didnt do much for me. Everyone kept saying what a difference it made. I accused the tech of not even performing the update. lol.

This update definitely worked. I could immediately tell the difference. My mpg's have gone back up, too. I just hope this stays like it is.

Well, hopefully this got nothing to do with Tacoma but Toyota in Japan just announced a recall on a several models of vans due to malfunction parts of fuel pumps, injector nozzles, ECU, and exhaust manifold. They announced recall because there were 211 cases of them.

Maybe a dumb question here, but I just picked up my truck last Thursday from the dealership (the same day the update was released), is there a place on the truck I can check to see what update I have? I looked under the hood and couldn't find anything other than an emissions sticker.

No. Only can tell by connecting to the Toyota dealer computer to read software version. May possibly be listed on pre-delivery inspection report if you can get one.

I called Toyota Corp yesterday and opened a case file. I recommend everyone else do the same if you are having issues. I am also dropping my truck off next week for its 10k service and the dealer will check/possibly flush transmission fluid. I will also see if the new TSB revision is available and have them install it. The original TSB only fixed the reverse/drive delay from park.

The newest update was installed on my truck Wednesday. Very happy with the improvements in both drivability and resolution to the flares.

Within 2 months of ownership my transmission complaints are all but resolved thanks to toyota quickly putting out updates. my last vehicle with poor transmission characteristics never got an update so I'm not complaining.

It's the same tsb but a new firmware is available as of 11/15. if you got this done before that date, get the new version. my 2017 had the first firmware for this tsb and the improvement is definitely worthwhile.

Ok, dumb question here. Just picked up my 2017, took it on its first road trip and noticed the transmission seemingly searching for gears. Does this TSB apply to the 2017's as well?

Great! So fortunate you did not have to battle with Toyota, dealers and factory technical reps. In order for your Tacoma to perform as it should have with the introduction of the third generation. Many have suffered and have consistently been told " your vehicle is operating as designed " before Toyota apparently solved the power train issues. Glad the faithful's diligence prevailed, preventing your anguish from last year. Toyota listened , finally, bravo Tacoma World members, you remained relentless in your efforts to finally get what you spent your hard earned money for. I am certain those affected don't think Toyota deserves an atta boy, should have provided solid product when third generation was introduced. Toyota has introduced an updated tab , if this is the "ONE" , if after a few miles your Tacoma looses it's memory, well welcome aboard the Tacoma power train debacle. For all the Tacoma cool aid fans, great for you, for those Tacoma owners have fought for your satisfaction. I love Tacomas , most assuredly number five would be improved, not so, only time will tell if this is the fix the faithful have longed for. Long live Tacoma!

Well this is a bit dramatic. My 2007 CX-7 had a litany of issues up to massive oil consumption and possible engine replacement before I got rid of it. My 2010 GMC Terrain needed new pistons/rings at 30k miles and a whole new long block at 60k miles. Our new 2015 C300 is going in next week for a TSB related to piston wrist pins having too much clearance causing piston slap when cold and will likely need to be rebuilt. My Subarus (8 of them) all suffered from some looming threat of either transmission failure, ringland failure, or massive oil consumption.

Look, I get it, some of these issues are frustrating. And it would be great if every new model year vehicle was without its problems...but that's not generally how this all works. These issues are absolutely minor in comparison and for some other manufacturers, minor issues like this may get swept under the rug. It's very encouraging to see Toyota, while perhaps telling people it's "normal" until a resolution is available, are investigating and pushing out fixes with time. Complaints are not going unheard and we should be thankful these issues we're experiencing are so minor.

Same issues as everybody else...... Delayed shifts, lunging in reverse, lurching between forward and reverse. The Toyota dealer kept my BRAND FREAKING NEW 2016 tacoma overnight. I got the call this morning that my fluid was 2 quarts low......... 2 QUARTS!!!!!! They also installed the software/firmware update. The technician confirmed my issues before adding fluid and installing the updates and reported that my Tacoma is now functioning properly. I plan to contact corporate and see if they will extended my powertrain warranty due to improper assembly procedures. If I had a failure after 36,000 miles and they found the transmission fluid low they would claim improper maintenance and charge me for the repair, SO............ I am going to see if I can turn the tables in OUR favor. I will post my results.

you are right Scooby24, i have a 2017 experiencing these same things and i called Toyota customer care and they have been extremely eager to help me resolve my issue. They assigned a case number and contacted my dealership and have called me almost every day to ask how things were going. i am scheduled to bring mine in Monday to let them check it out and i am bringing a copy of the TSB released on 11-15-2016 just in case i need ammo! I am hoping for the satisfactory results just as you have gotten. I have never had an issue with any toyota i have ever owned except this one. I think once this bug is fixed i will be happy again. Thanks for posting your experience !

Wow you have really been plagued with some bad luck with vehicles, eight Subarus with serious issues now that is some kind of drama to contend with. Tacoma owners demand more from their vehicles, wonder why Toyota has issued extended warranties( extended service agreements), why? Product integrity is suffering with the third generation, perhaps your level of drama would escalate if your Tacoma was a sixteen model and you had been contending with issues as soon as eight hundred miles after delivery, simple solution engineer, test, deliver product Tacoma buyers bargained for. Glad your's is corrected, many are not.

Short backstory: I have a 16 TRD OR with the tow package that has roughly 2500 miles and have had it into the dealer twice now. First time was to have it flashed with the TSB which ended up being a temporary fix and a second time where they added 3/4th of a quart to the trans. Driving the truck in the last few weeks I have noticed wicked shift flair as well as a very noticeable and loud downshift clunk when coming to a stop. Going into work yesterday AM the truck stuck at 3k Rpm and would not up or down shift on an incline, CC was off and I had to move over into the right lane to slow down to let the truck finally shift. I called my local dealer (Wallingford Toyota here in CT) and spoke to the service manager who stated that he wanted a regional rep to to look at the truck as this was a well known issue and well documented.

My question is, what resolution can/should I expect from the regional tech and what questions should I ask him when my truck is there for the work?

    Thank you!
