    1. if i re-gear my automatic 2WD what data does the transmission use to shift?
    2. does it shift according to the RPM?
    3. if so does that mean it will shift thru the gears too soon and/or will the shifting points be all over the map?
    4. i would like to put in a plain and simple posi traction and eliminate the buttons on the roof consul, is this possible and will i get warning lights because the wires from the switches are no longer connected?

i do not think it will be as easy as when i put in a 4:56 posi 3rd member in my 1959 Chevy 50 years ago.

Can't say for the 3rd gen since it has a different motor/tranny than my 2nd gen. However, when I went from 3.73 gears to 4.56 I don't believe the shift points changed. The truck runs much higher RPMs though. Better low end torque though.

As far as gearing is concerned, it will be as easy as your chevy. The transmission will use a combination of throttle position, engine load and rpm to determine the right gear to be in. Not all that different than the old school stuff, just with wires instead of mechanically. I can't answer the second half
