I have to agree and I don't make decisions in my life based on what other people think. My decisions are based on my needs, uses, and likes, that being said it would be nice to transition to having access to the bed without the cap on and removing the cap isn't as easy as I hoped. If I were to do it again, I would seriously look into a soft cover topper.

Just curious, have you owned both and what about the softopper didn't you like, over the hard shell?

    Workin' on it....
That is the big benefit -- covered lockable storage especially for people with #shortbedproblems. Granted I totally agree if you start hauling bikes or quads then it has to go.

Why are women making the choices? Your truck, you make the payments, should be your decision. I know why they are making the decisions. It's all for the nookie.

She didn't make the choice. I did. I told her what I was thinking if doing, removing the shell. She says, it kinda makes it look like an old man truck. I say I want to remove it today, she asks me where the tools are lets get to work. Sounds like a great wife too me

Yeah, I can't count the times that I have had things loaded in my bed and without my cap, they would have gotten soaked, I also can leave things stored in my bed without the fear of someone stealing them too. I would definitely miss my cap and plus I don't have snow in my bed to clean either.

The number one reason I'm considering a cap would be the Weather and storage-- lockable storage.

In my mind, thinking practically is a sign of wisdom. I always hated bug/rock deflectors but after having to get my windshield fixed twice, I was willing to try anything. So far, so good!

I think you quoted the wrong person. I have never owned a shell, i like the looks of them and knowni would like the functionality of them, just the proce tag is whats stopped me.

I currently have a g2 bakflip that i really like, but seriously thinking about a shell.

Opps....Have you ever looked in the Craigslist free section, because I see some useable ones often and the price is right too?

My neighbor got his that way and kind of wish I knew before I bought mine, but it is nice to have a customer made one and get it installed properly too.

I bought an old ford half ton years ago that had a cap on it, I'm not a cap guy at all but I left that cap on it for one entire year, I tried to like it but after a year it came off and I havent had one on any of my trucks sense.

my biggest complaints were, cant see around it, its always in the way when I need to load something up, cant haul gravel or mulch with it on there. I can see why guys like them but yah, its all in what I use my truck for I suppose.

My thoughts exactly, having also installed a bug deflector too, I wonder if it actually works or makes me feel better, because I have it installed??

imop what part of the country is a factor, I like the "uncapped" look the best, but to keep things dry & not snow covered I opted for the cap, if the dogs are all wet I can put them under the cap, & not in the truck. if I lived where there was no snow or much rain the cap would be History. jmop

I would disagree about both, as I have loaded gravel, mulch, and manure and the downside is that I had to hand loaded them, instead of having the tractor load it for me. It's not ideal, but not something that would stop me from buying one. Over all my cap is a must have, even with all the drawbacks and inconveniences.
