What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

So I turn off my truck and I hear a buzz sound. I look and feel all around and I see that it's this. I just don't know the name of this or part number can you guys help me out

 

Charcoal canister.

It most likely is the purge valve going to the canister.

if its loose, i am betting both the slug and spindle are done. to get you buy you can always just weld the slug to the spindle to hold it from moving till you find a new spindle and order a slug.

Common with your year and not hurting anything, just annoying. It is a chattering check valve and Toyota came up with a "fix" in 99. It consisted of a small chamber spliced into the lower line in the circle and glued to the canister. This provided an air "cushion" to dampen inertia pluses in the line. It is nothing more than an empty box. I believe the kit is no longer available.

I still have it in my 2000

 

I have the same noise from the canister- it takes fuel vapor to depressurize the fuel tank so it doesn't explode and releases it into the intake- mine also "ticks" quietly at idle when it is cold out and there is little fuel vapor.
the system is active for a certain time after the key is shut off so buzzing...
both the dealer and a local shop I trust told there is nothing wrong with it and it is normal.
they both told me not to worry and that it is totally harmless... it does absorb fuel vapor so might should get it looked at if you are worried to make sure the valve is not stuck and holding back pressure...

 

IIRC they 8.5" travel. We put the lower shock mounts there to get maximum use out of the shocks.

 

so I am at around 144K and have heard it is a good time to get valves adjusted?
What are peoples opinions? How much does a valve check run ?

Nahh, I'm going to lower the front end. I've lowered this truck roughly 6" since i bought it. never again will i buy someone else's project

 

I've never heard of anyone having to adjust the valves on their v6. I think you got miss-information.

 

The 2.7 is known for it's exhaust valves tightening over time and cracking the head, the 3.4 is all bueno for the most part. It is a good idea to check it periodically as it could still have the same issue theoretically, just not too many cases reported.

 

Well that is a big relief for my mind and my wallet
