i believe the easiest on the eyes would be red, but im sure the OEM amber is just as good. you can always dim your cluster too if your driving a ton at night...

    1st post here,

So just out of curiosity, what happens with say a Tach needle or Speedo needle if you combine colors? Say red and blue or white and blue?

Same for the speedometer itself, if you went from green, to yellow, to red, would the cluster have a blending effect. Say green on lower speeds, yellow for mid range, and red for upper range with blending between colors?

Not sure if they use fiber optics to light the background or how they are seperated. I could see it working on the tach/speedo needles but maybe not the tach/speedometer.

Is this a fairly easy job for somebody to do themselves?

    /edited

Looks like it is possible after visiting the LED site.

yes its possible, does it look good....thats another issue...but hey, its your truck! i did do one for a guy that i faded blue to white.

there are two LEDs for the tach, 3 for the speedo, and one each for the temp/gas. you are limited in fade by that.

if you know how to solder and are pretty good at modding things, not hard at all. just remember that polarity matters w/ LEDs.

Can you do it on an 05 Tundra DC? If so, do you know what LEDs I'll need? I'm very interested!

That specific color combination, yes it does.

    However,

That could be interesting. The colors would be very important so as to not look completely retarded.

I like the idea of white into blue.

The picture I found was an extreme with the most vivid colors to show they do appear to mix/blend.

    Okay, I have a question.

How are you going about getting the white illumination on the needles?

Pull the needles off then remove the orange paint on the needles? Does it scrape off or are you using a thinner/remover to do it? Do you recommend leaving a slight bit of orange paint on a tip so you can see it easily during the day? Or are you repainting the back side of the needle?

^ you cannot change the color of the clock w/ just LEDs. you have to use some sort of solvent to remove the orange film on the backside of the clock. the clock will then be a bluish green color, so you are limited in the color tint you want as to what it will come out as. you cannot do the HVAC controls, as there is orange plastic sandwiched between clear plastic on the inside and the silver paint on the outside.
