If the roads are covered in snow use 4wheel just dont use 4 wheel on dry pavement. If that was your ? You maybe able to get away with no chains if you have 4wheel drive.if that is what your asking. Check with Csp.

Mine has always made a beeping sound in 4LO and thought it was normal, but I can feel the difference from 4HI, so I know it's being engaged in 4LO. I will try a procedure of going into neutral, while depressing the clutch to see if it makes a difference. I think because I felt it engage made me think it was a warning, to tell you you aren't in 4HI.

I just hope my actuator isn't frozen and needs to be repaired. What would be the downside of not fixing the actuator, if I'm getting that beeping sound or because I feel it engage that the beeping sound isn't anything to worry about, seeing that it's miss reading it as unengaged, when it is engaged and the actuator is fine?

I have an auto so not 100% but if you push in clutch its in neutral but youre not supposed to be moving to go into 4lo maybe 2 mph max.

So no driving in 4x4 in super heavy rain/snow?

Then how will I feel superior to all the Accords and minivans with their FWD? :anonymous:

10 miles is probably to get the gear oil in the transfercase hot enough to drive out any water buildup in the oil.

Sounds to me like if you don't need 4x4 then don't buy a 4x4. It would be of great hassle to go look for dirt to engage 4x4 when you don't like to wheel. If you live in SoCal you don't get much rain either and no snow either.

Ironically its been raining today here. SoCal actually does have snow within an hours drive, as well as plenty of places to off road. Not sure if you were referring to my post, but I was asking about a specific scenario given you have people on this thread saying never use 4x4 on pavement when there are clear reasons to use it on the pavement, but rather than arguing with people, I tried making my point by posing a question.

If you read the manual correctly...you must do 5 miles,in (D) forward, and then, within 3-5 mins, the additional 5 miles, in (R) Reverse, with the left directional on.

I have two wells and own a wetland. I don't pay for water.

People in town, however, complain about $70/mo water bills.

I have manual hubs on my 93. Once they hubs are locked you still have to switch between 2wd and 4high/4lo with the lever in the cab. So no difference in this scenario.

    Californians haha

When I go up to Sequoia, Big Bear, etc in the "winters" out there I pass all the peeps with 4x4 and chains in my Honda Fit. It's not about road conditions most of the time I've been there. It's about driver experience haha.

Sorry for the noob question. I am new to 4x4 trucks and I'm slowly learning as I read posts and other online item. After reading this thread the consensus is not to drive in 4H on dry pavement where turns or curves are, but on gravel it isn't a problem. I guess the noobness of me is having a hard time deciphering why dry pavement is harder in 4H than on gravel or loose dirt roads when it comes to turns. Why is turning on dry pavement bad vs gravel/loose roads?

ps, I am hoping it snows here in the Seattle area so I can really play in the snow and i'm sure it will be snowing when I go across the pass this month so I want to learn about all of this before driving in snow and before I travel on trails.

It's fine, my F-250 was shift on the fly and had 250,000 miles on it and I drove 4wd on pavement at speeds up to 55. Only thing the 4wd ever needed was a new transfer case motor at 230,000.

Turns don't affect 4wd unless you rank the wheel all the way over, like pulling into a tight parking spot, otherwise its perfectly fine.

Anyone who says not to or it will damage the system are idiots.
