my brake controller pig tail was hanging out on the left side just at the top of the side panel, I didn't have to take anything off to find it.

 

Picked this up last weekend. GVWR 3,500 full, so the tacoma pulls it great.

I added an anti-sway bar to the hitch and a brake controller. I plan to do a leveling kit to the truck, so adding a leaf to the rear will help it sit up a little more. Overall, very happy with the performance with the trailer behind.

 

if it 'porpoises' on bumps/dips, a 600 lb rated WDH will help immensely.

 

ya my camper had a bit more porpoise then I wanted but when I put 20-25 psi in the air bags along with the wdh it almost eliminates it completely

 

Yup. I'd recommend getting a weight distribution hitch before spending money on suspension upgrades.

 

Not much to tow but I borrowed the neighbor's trailer to move the snowblower and took this photo just for this thread...

...^^^... Backing up ... this is exactly why I do NOT tow anything ... ... never learned to back-up with a trailer ...

I usually tow this about 300 miles round trip several times during duck season. I usually get about 13.5 mpgs towing it. I got around 11-12 towing into a 20-25mph north wind last weekend.

All the info on short wheel base is spot on.

I could never understand how to back until I was told 'Drive the hitch'. For some reason all of a sudden it made sense. Ever since, I can back most anything. Better than most of the people I know and see.

 

Exactly what I did, went to a parking lot for three nights and practiced a couple hours, now I can put the 8 foot trailer where ever I want.

 

i had to backup my Casita in the dark, and park it in a fairly narrow space that involved going around obstacles... omg, that was annoying. I need LED light bars on the sides and top of the trailer aimed to the surrounds the trucks tail lights reflecting off the white sides of the Casita were blinding.

 

Exactly! I have to have my hand on top of the steering wheel, and use the mirrors. I've tried the bottom of the wheel thing and do it wrong every time. " Drive the hitch" is a good description of how I back up a trailer

I hear ya. my driveway is steeep, downhill and i have to back the trailer between 3 or 4 vehicles to park it beside the garage. at night i cam swivel the trailers porch lights to be back up lights. The porch lights are actually LED off road flood lights so night time backing vision becomes essentially daylight

 

I towed this back from VA to NJ after he got hit and bent his rear axle during our overloading trip.. Surge brakes were amazing to have

 

How did you manage renting an uhaul trailer to tow a 4runner? Every time I have tried to rent a car trailer from them, them say I can't. My truck has the factory tow package and still no go.

 

You have to lie to them what you are going to tow... I think a the trailer plus the towed vehicle cannot be more than 80% of the truck weight so you have to say something like a Cavalier or a very light car for them to rent.

I have. I think the uhaul place here only rents their trailer if you have a full size truck.

 

So I just inherited a 71 Monte Carlo and need to move it 4 hours away I Have a 2006 double cab prerunner, 2 wheel auto anybody have experience going over moutains pulling something that heavy will be renting a car hauler from uhaul

 

I guess that I am a little dense because I don't know what that means.
I can back up ok but always willing to learn something new.
