The wheel spacers are pushing the tire into the cab mount and firewall. Rub that stuff, or rub the frame, pick one.

My personal thoughts are ditch the spacers completely and get new wheels.

What would be the ideal backspacing? If I got new wheels

I never put that together for some reason. The things you learn on a Sunday morning.

So that being said he is sitting at 3.25" BS with the spacers which is too much scrub radius. I run a .75" spacer on my 4.5" BS wheels and so I sit at 3.75". That works for me except at full lock with the wheel tucked. I shine the frame then. :)

I can't say for sure, but here is what you are looking at currently
This pic shows your wheel with an assumed offset of -25 to show the spacer you have installed. (In Orange)
The Green is the same wheel/tire combo, minus the spacer.

@NYCO runs a wheel with 3.5" BS and does not have any issues or the frame or the CMC. But has done a lot of hammering to the fender.

This may be what he needs.
I was thinking the SCS set up, 16x8.5 with 4" backspacing.

Do you have the same BS?

    Orange is his current setup
Green would be less spacer, approximately.

This is your current wheel/spacer combo in orange again.
The green would be the SCS wheel, 16x8.5 with -10 offset. This would clear the CMC better, but may rub the frame. I would choose frame rub over fender rub anyday.

And of course I can't see your upper control arm and how close the tire is to the ball joint, this must be considered as well.

I thought the only 8.5" wide wheels they have are 17s. Mine are 16x8 with 4" backspacing.

Offset is really a much better way to compare wheels between different widths.

    Why is frame rub better?

I had to update my post. My math is not working today. You currently have 3.25" with the spacer. I have the same BS but run a .75" spacer. So I have 3.75" bs.

It's smoother, less likely to cut the tire and easier to control. Just don't turn that far.
