    ^^ This ^^

I've had a utility trailer for 20+ years. Even when I drove a 1 ton dually pickup I'd still use the trailer to get big loads. There comes a point of diminishing returns on bed size. With the dually's 8' bed stuff would slide to the front and it was a PITA to get it back out. I eventually bought a spreader bar that effectively shortened the bed to 2 feet. As soon as I didn't need the 1 ton for hauling a camper around it was gone!

It just seems to me that if you still have to use a trailer every time you need to haul stuff...why buy a truck at all? If you like a short wheel base for off roading, there are better options that can still tow your trailer. If you live in the city and have trouble parking, there are better options that can still tow your trailer. I think a lot of people buy trucks for the look, not necessarily because they need one, and that's fine, its your money. In the end we all calculate whats best for ourselves, to each his own.

The DCSB just seems like a jack-of-no-trades awkward compromise to me..

10 years In an 06 DCSB then went to a 13 DCLB. The LB looks better (with a lift and at least 32s), rides better, tows more stably and simply has more room. It's amazing what an extra 12" does for you. All that said, it is longer and takes just a bit of getting used to in daily driving, but after a couple of months behind the wheel, it's simply not an issue. Turning radius is larger too, but I haven't been anywhere in my DCSB that I couldn't go in my DCLB with ease. All in all, my vote goes to the LB...

    That's what she said!

I opted for the Tacoma because I have dogs. The SB works well for them and me by keeping them out of the cabin. But anything else, and all your points are valid.

Next time around I will go LB. I'm actually actively looking for a newer LB with A-Trac. Hopefully I can locate on for spring.

My SB is - is my daily driver, and much easier than my old LB to park. Also, it fits in a garage that the LB would not. Which is important to me. I haul a lot of wood and hay which does just fine in the SB. I have an awesome headache rack + ladder rack combo that is perfect for the occasional lumber, fence posts, etc., that won't fit safely in the back. The majority of stuff I use the ladder rack for wouldn't fit in an LB either.

Thats great to hear and makes sense if it works for you. Sounds like you do some farming? What sort? We'll be buying a small farm next year and are pretty excited about it.

Nothing fancy. A few horses, lots of fence to maintain, and we heat our home with wood which we cut nearby requiring the Taco to work in some crazy environs. And as we have no electricity or water supply at the stables in the winter I haul a lot of water every week. The Tacoma DCSB with ladder rack and OME Dakars is an awesome workhorse. Still trying to find the perfect non-winter tires though...
Enjoy your new farm/life. Sounds interesting.

ACLB the way to go, best of both worlds.

A utility trailer is just a tool, and I like tools. Like having a LB is a tool, like a hammer, a BFH. And everywhere you go you have to lug that BFH around. Now, from time to time you actually need that BFH and you're glad to have it. But, be honest, most people who drive trucks seldom need a BFH. A SB with a trailer is the best of both worlds. My 5x8 stake side trailer is a BFH it will hold more than any full size truck, combined with my SB it is a trash hauling beast. When its not hauling stuff to the dump, it just sits happily in the back yard.

Now to me the LB seems like the awkward one. If you really need to haul stuff why not buy a full size truck? I'm on big constructions sites several times a week and there isn't a Tacoma to be found. (except mine )

That an awesome point. I also have a trailer, if I need to haul something I use it and don't have to be worried about wrecking my truck hauling the stuff I need. My trailer hauls my bike around when I need to and anything else. I have a bed extender and use it when I find a deal on something and don't have the trailer to haul it home. It seems that there are many for lb as for sb. That being said the ones that like the lb shouldn't criticize the ones that like the sb.

    ^^^ True Dat ^^^
LB vs SB and Auto vs Manual are two threads that will never be agreed upon. I look at them like trash talking my coworkers teams, fun to do because they root for idiots, but at the end of the day its still football, basketball or Tacomas and watching the alternative (Soccer or GM products) is just too horrible a fate to consider.

A good question but for me at least, the current selection of full-size trucks are just physically larger than I'd like, and more capability than I need regularly. The Tacoma with the LB is perfect for me. If the SB is perfect for others that's great too, I retract any perceived hatin'

Ok you're right, I can get down with that. We've all got great trucks that do what we need.

I don't know but IMO the DCSB looks better. Also every time someone asks me if they can borrow my truck to haul something. I show them my truck and they would say "man that's really small, I'm sure it wouldn't fit" :D:D:D. I wish I have a manual though
