Curved vs. Straight LED Light Bar Mounts?

So I am going with a 50" curved LED light bar, and now I have to figure out the mounts. Basically my question is, How much difference is there between the curved light bar mounts and the straight light bar mounts? Only reason I am asking is I found a good deal on some straight led bar mounts and wondering if they will work (even if I have to do some light bending and whatnot to make it happen). Thanks in advance.

 

Depends on the mounts I think. Most curved mounts I've seen are low profile. Which means if you were to mount a straight bar on it, the center would be touching the windshield. If the mounts are raised a bit, then it might work, after slight bending.

I don't have a picture of the exact mounts but he said they came off of Amazon, and these are the only ones I can find on there that he would be giving up this cheap. So basically if I mount a curved bar on straight mounts more than likely it will be higher up than if I had the curved bar mounts?

 

Well, yeah. If the mounts aren't low profile. Of they are low profile, the curved bar will be hugging the curve of the windshield closely all the way across. So if you mounted a straight bar there, it wouldn't mount. Because the middle of bar would be touching the windshield, and the ends would be too high to mount.

If they are like the pic you posted, then thatd probly work with both bars as the mount arms are extended out and up a bit. I'll see if I can find a photo of a curved bar low pro mount ffrom the side to show you..

 

So if they are mounts like this, a straight bar most likely won't work.



Versus this, which is probably your only option. Getting straight bar mounts, and putting the curved bar on it, after slight bending of the mounts.
Basically, you can mount a curved bar on straight mounts, but not a straight bar on curved mounts. Unless those mounts are extended out/up enough to clear the windshield.

 

Thanks for the info, its what I needed. I think I am gonna pass on the original mounts I seen and try to fab my own. Will post back if I get them done soon.

All i know is straight and curved mounts are listed separately so no. BUT im sure you could just bend the mounts and theyl work fine. mount to mount is the same but curved bars have angled ends.

 

Did you end up fabbing your own? I'm looking at the same straight bar mounts on Amazon you were, they're a great deal and look solid but I have a 50" curved light bar as well.

 

Sorry for the delayed response, I traded my Tacoma in on a Tundra, and spend most of my time over on tundras.com but to answer your question, I did fab my own mounts out of an old road sign I had laying around (insert you might be a redneck joke here). They worked but were a little too flimsy for what I wanted, plus I ended up making them too low to the windshield and the wipers would hit on occasion. I ended up buying some Relentless mounts that fit perfect and were well worth the money, however, I can't find them on their site anymore. Might check with @RelentlessFab and see if they are still making them. I mounted them over top of the rubber strip and they still worked perfectly.

 

By the way, these are the Relentless mounts that I bought, just in black. Trying to bend the straight mounts will put the lightbar pretty high on the roof, which I would recommend against due to wind noise.
