Sorry guys. I fell off the wagon for a bit. Had some major back issues mixed with a lot of stress and didn't lose anything. Working on it again now.

So it took me a while to get started, but about a week and a half ago I said "enough" and got to it. Picked up a Fitbit Blaze, set some goals, and I've been meeting them.

Lost about 3 pounds so far 10 days in. Goal is "fit in all the uniforms I retired in."

I have a few more pounds (or stone) to go.

I have been hitting the gym a lot :militarypress:... and walking 3 miles a day at the mall ... and trying to get back and stay in shape. :muscleflexing:

Was going to drop about 5 lbs too ... but the exercise has made me "crazy hungry" :hungry: ... and now I have gained 12 pounds in 3 weeks  ... WTF ...

I just came across this thread. A few years ago I was in terrible shape at 50 something and a tic tac away from 300lbs with almost no physical activity, unless you count pulling my ass off of the couch to graze. I decided that I needed to make a change, I did not want to spend my upcoming retirement and wealth on doctors and meds, so I started small. I didn't really have a goal weight I just wanted to lose weight and improve my fitness level. I started walking, then jogging and then cycling. I eventually decided my fitness goal was to run a half marathon and I did the Marine Half in May of 2015.My weight dropped to about 217 lbs, I was running about 14 miles a week and biking at least that. I stopped running so much because my knees started giving me problems, I focused on cycling with the goal of doing a local half century ride. In June /July of this year I messed up my back and could barely walk without severe pain. I've put on about 7 lbs since and feel completely out of shape. I'm getting to the point were the pain is tolerable and I'm hoping to get back to cycling soon, even considering a gym to get me through the winter. I'm almost 58 years old now and I know that keeping the weight off is hard but it's depressing to feel so out of shape, like I'm starting all over again.

Keep going Jeff. I'm using an elliptical this winter.

I'm down to 187. Been walking/hiking/hunting a lot, but also eating a lot for fuel. I think the next 10lbs are going to be slooooow going unless I really whack in some cardio and count calories..

I'm just now able to walk a mile or two with bearable amounts of pain. It may not seem like much but a few months ago I couldn't walk for more than a few minutes without doubling over in pain. Next week I plan on getting a three month gym membership to get me through the winter. My therapist recommended treadmill, elliptical and stationary bike to start. I can't even describe to you what it's like to be more or less pain free, chronic pain is a real bitch. I appreciate the kind words fellas, good luck to everyone and stay safe!

Elliptical and bike are a lot easier on your joints than a treadmill is. Bike will be easiest since you're sitting down but the elliptical is able to work out your arms too.

Thanks man, I appreciate the advice and encouragement I've received on this forum. I walked almost 3 miles today, the first mile was tough as my sciatic nerve was screaming at me. After that it calmed down and I finished up virtually pain free. When I do my PT I enjoy the recumbent bike the most followed by the treadmill. I'm probably going to focus on those two and light weight training on my legs. I've noticed a big drop in muscle mass, especially in the leg effected by the sciatica, since I've been injured.

Thanks...I belonged to a gym about two years ago, again over the winter, and really enjoyed it.
There's one kinda close to work so I plan on going 4 days a week before or after work. The wife is very supportive so that makes going a little easier.

I looked at buying an inversion table, my buddy has one and he likes his. When I get a chance I'm going to try it out just to see if it helps.

I'm still logging thru MFP, but I'm not happy with results. I'm always way below my caloric allowances. I still notice little weight loss. Kinda pisses me off.

I do know that my fat intake might be higher than it should be. Maybe those fat calories are the deal breaker? I dunno.

Regardless, the wife and I are happy that I'm getting regular exercise. I do know that I miss my workouts when life gets in the way.

That's most likely one of my issues. I love carbs. I'm slowly reducing my bread intake, but nothing is more satisfying than a couple sandwiches.
