Significant difference between a sport 4x2 and a DCSB OR 4x4 for example.

It's good to hear someone actually got the mpg the truck was rated for. Being a 2wd and having an air dam sure helps. I don't know if I'll ever achieve 23mpg with my 4x4 and no air dam.

That's an SR5 so the tires are smaller and lighter, access cab makes the truck lighter, and he has an air dam, perfect truck to squeeze the most mpg. I don't see me achieving this with my TRD OR double cab lol

I've hit about 24.5 mpg in my DCSB TRD-OR 4x4. Was actually over 25mpg on my Ultra-Gauge accounting for my odometer being off by 2% from the factory. That was ~120 miles of mainly 55mph 2-lane highway with about 15 miles of that being stuck behind a car doing 10-15 under with nowhere to pass. Guess that's the secret to good gas mileage...get stuck behind slow people.

Curious why the air dam would make a difference? It's non functional, purely aesthetics.

That's actually very significant. Follow along behind another vehicle and have them "push" the air. It makes a big difference at any speed, especially if it's a semi.

From what I've read, it was installed to reduce drag and improve fuel economy, they removed it from the TRD offroad for better clearance I think.

Definitely not aesthetics and purely for functionality. It reduces drag, increasing aerodynamics. Almost all trucks have Air Dams now because of this, Ford Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, etc.

One of the reasons the TRD OR is rated at 17/20 mpgs and a sport 19/24

yeah, I've noticed it jump up to about 26-28mpg from 22 when behind a semi. Not willing to stay behind something I can't see around though.

Naw that's for the extra 15 HP for great looks. Or maybe it's just the smile factor

Wow, wish I saw that kind of MPG's. I see about 17mpgs combined but I drive in NE with hills/mts everywhere. My truck only has 1500 miles it should get a little better. Lots of stop and go also sucks. I have found that the OEM computer is pretty accurate about .2-3 mpgs off. usually on the low side according to Fuelly.com

Believe the 17/20 is for the m/t. MPG should be listed as the same for similar configurations.

I'm not sure, I used the data from Toyota's website. I think the biggest difference is 4x4 vs 4x2, not m/t
