Thats a myth. You will get a fine of $109 at worst but your insurance coverage in BC won't be affected .

Location of your truck relative to your tires plays a role in whether or not you get the TPMS light. When I had the tires in my garage, I could drive almost the whole way to work before I'd get the light, like you experience. However, once I moved the wheels into my cellar for the winter to keep them at a constant temperature and not expose them to exhaust fumes in my garage, the truck wouldn't always sense the tire and I'd end up with the lamp on from mile 1. However, it was interesting because depending on which side of my garage the truck was on played a role in whether or not the signal reached the truck.

All great information but can anyone chime in on the following and what year they're speaking about:

    A) is it just the light that flashes if no tpms is sensed?
    B) any systems affected by no tpms? Traction control or stability system affected?
    C) does the dash info screen between the tach and speedo get fixated on no tpms and loose functions?

Need to make a decision. Either no winter tires as can't clone 2017 sensors yet or run winter tires without tpms.

    Thanks

    Thanks

No big deal...My sensors are in the tires in the garage... After driving about 20 Kms, the ECU searches for them, can't find them and turns on the light. no flashing.... Nothing else.... I use a 5/8" round piece of electrical tape strategically placed over the light so I don't even see it... I can see all other idiots lights as normal. Can't even see the tape during the day unless you really try to..

Nothing happens except that the light comes on... The world will not come to an end..!!

Cheers.:canada: EDIT... forgot...this worked in my 2006 and now the 2016..Taco

:notsure: I don't recommend anything, but that is what I'd do. I don't get up to Summit and Eagle counties as much as you do, but I'm in West JeffCo. For what it is worth, (and for now) I plan on replacing my stock TRDOR tires with the same.

I haven't had the KO2s, but I had a set of KOs. Those were some of the worst tires I've ever had in the rain and snow, myself, but YMMV. They were on my Wrangler (first) and Grand Cherokee later. Having said that, I did use them up back side of Ike in a blizzard and it was the wet heavy stuff and things went well for us.

These Canadians describing province rules or whatever else is completely foreign to me. It is nothing like our climate, and honestly doesn't even sound like WI where I grew up and learned to drive, so :notsure:. When I have gone up skiing or whatever, except in a snowfall, they get 70 cleaned up fast. Traffic is a much bigger issue than weather, IMO.

Got my winters on. Introducing what the tire shop called the ugliest steel wheels they've seen.

17 inch Toyota black steel wheels made in USA on sale $346 CDN taxes in. Cheaper than Costco rims. 265/65/r17 Michelin Latitude xice xi2 $950 CDN installed taxes in. Costco lug package 154 $27 shipped. Case of MGD to drink while doing the tires $25.

Cloned TPMS would have been another $240 taxes in but the 2017 can't be cloned so I didn't put the sensors in. It could be two years before it's cracked and can be cloned.

I wish Toyota made silver steel wheels like I have on my Rav4 winter tires.

    UPDATE:

When I took my rims to the tire shop to buy tires and have them mounted, they told me that they couldn't trigger the sensors. They didn't tell me that they broke two of the sensors and replaced them with aftermarket sensors.

I ended up buying a trigger tool. I got the Ateq VT36 (also from Tire Rack) because I found out that the VT30 is being discontinued next year. It took me a while to figure out the problem with the sensors.

I took the wheels back to the tire shop and they replaced the aftermarket sensors with OEM sensors from the local dealer. I triggered all of the sensors with my VT36 tool while still at the shop. All of them triggered OK and the ID's matched what I had written down.

When I was ready to put the winter tires on the truck, I entered the new ID's into the Quickset tool and loaded them into the ECU on the truck. Went for a short drive and the tire pressures showed up on the truck's display so all is good.

Swapped on my snows, the 2G TRD wheels don't look particularly good on the 3G trucks IMO.

The tires are Hankook I-Pike RW11s which work quite well for me. Eventually I will swap my 2016 TRD OR wheels onto snow tires and resell the OEM tires with these 2G wheels.

Ewww! Well at least when they're spinning, they'll look like all the other black rims that people have on their tacomas. haha

We had a bit of a storm last week and the stock no-seasons didn't cut it. I got Blizzak DM-V2 on 16" Steelies from Collingwood Toyota while I was in for my 16,000km service. Tires, wheels and lugs $1400 installed, taxes in.

Lucky guy to get silver rims. Silver not available on 16s and I should have dropped to 16s in the winter to avoid the ugliest black rim ever.

Have you had the opportunity to try out the Mastercraft Courser MSRs?
I just bought the same winter tires, choose not to go studded tho.
These too were recommended by the tire shop owner.
On other trucks, I have run Blizzaks, studded Firestone Winterforce, Studded Hankook Ipike, Nokians (can't afford anymore).
Curious how these will be they look pretty aggressive and seem to have a lot of thought engineering built in.
I have always loved my Cooper tires so any input on your setup in conditions is appreciated. thx

Nice I have the same set up and was wondering how they perform. Great to hear they work well. The only thing is I need to buy updated sensors

Quebec's mandatory snow tire law for passenger vehicles and taxis runs from Dec. 15 to March 15.

I've run a variety of snow tires and all-season tires on different vehicles for years and I prefer snow tires even on 4WD trucks. Sure you can probably make it through winter with all-season tires but why risk it? I like having better stopping and turning ability, especially in a pickup.
