Man...front end exploded into a thousand pieces.

Can anyone tell me why (Thank God) the airbags did not go off?

After impact I was full brakes and she steered beautifully to the side of the road. ABS chirping away.... I threw the deer about 50 meters away. :O

I am hoping that it will be written off as I have replacement insurance. Looks like frame is bent. It was a heck of a thump!

Damn man ... really surprised the airbags didn't deploy, by the looks of that impact i definitely think they should have .. that is kind of concerning!
Glad you didn't get hurt, i would of at least had me some good deer backstraps to feast on :D

This gal from the area last fall drove off the road into a big pond. While the car was sinking she was talking to onstar asking them what she should do because she just swerved to miss a deer and was in a pond and her new car was sinking.

I think she just wanted out from her car loan each month myself....

Hope you get a new truck OP! I hit 2 deer about 13 years ago with a '91 Ford Ranger. Got it fixed up like a new one but I never felt the same way about my Ranger. Damn that was a nice truck.

I hit a deer doing about 50, and I don't remember feeling much of an impact. I think it would be more dangerous to have the air bag go off.

Did you gut the deer and take it home for a few good meals?

I think Toyota might want to know about this incident...considering this could be a huge safety issue

Air bags deploy based on vehicle deceleration readings. The deer probably didn't have enough mass to slow the truck more than being on full brake did.

Frame probably not bent. The aluminum crash bar behind the lower bumper cover will crumple first before the frame bends. Looks like the radiator support and all the plastic parts bent, all of which are replaceable. Not sure about the inner fender support.

Deer are weird animals. I could go hunting all day and not see shit, but they'll run right into cars on the middle of the road.

    Glad you're ok man.

I would of took the case out and cut the front and rear quarter off that were not impacted during the collision then left the rest for the yoties & buzzards.

Most of the time they run out across the highway/road because they are being chased by yoties or dogs. I can lay here at night during the summer and here yoties chasing deer in the corn fields.
