Not sure if it was addressed since there are a ton of pages until the end all probably whining about Chevy reliability.

BUT, when I drove a diesel Colorado a few months ago, the front of the spare tire appeared to be almost as low as the bottom of the rear diff, which was a huge issue for me.

The piss tank looked to be mounted above the spare, pushing it down. I'm guessing that's part of the reason the zr2 has the spare inside the bed since it was easier than moving that tank and whatever else is up there.

Nice looking truck. I just traded my full size (RAM 1500) for a new Tacoma. I'm sure I'll miss the power of the Hemi, but that's about it. The Chevy looks nice now, but you paid 10k more than you would've paid for a Taco and when you go to trade it in you'll get half as much on trade value as you would have on a similarly equipped Tacoma. Trust me, I've been there. What kinda gas mileage you get with the 6.2?

There is no 'similarly equipped' Tacoma. They're not even in the same league. Tundra doesn't even come really close.

I've always owned full size American trucks in the past, and frankly I've never been surprised by trade in values because I've never traded one in! I've run them for years and sold them outright and never really lost my shirt. My last truck was a 1998.5 3/4 ton Dodge diesel 5spd. I paid $18,000 for it 13 years ago and sold it for $14,000 last May.

When I went hunting with my friend a few weeks ago, we both took our rigs- my Tacoma and his brand new GMC Sierra with a 6.2L 8spd tranny. I followed him 250 miles, we drove the same speed, same distance. His computer MPG was 19, mine was 17, and I had stock tires and he towed his 4 wheeler on a small trailer. That was the nail in the coffin for me and my Tacoma.

It makes no sense to own a quirky, smaller Toyota in lieu of a more powerful, comfortable and similarly priced full size that gets the same or better mileage- regardless of 'trade in'. If you use a truck like a truck generally it's worth the cost of the depreciation. If you're an urban / suburban commando with no use for the larger bed-size, the Taco is a great choice.

Honestly the Toyota was a compromise truck for me. My rationale was I could make due with less with the offset being better MPG and lower maintenance costs. The MPG was bullshit and I'm not sold that this gen is going to be 'trouble free'.

Dude- The Chevy as you see it will run $40,000-41,000. My Tacoma cost $38,000.

Push the pedal on the 6.2 and you'll never think of a Tacoma again. I know I miss my full size Hemi, but I'll have another soon.

    I did.. That's why I want it!

(Well that and the buttery smooth powerband, increased cargo capacity, increased towing capacity, increased payload capacity, driver comfort, integrated tow control, heated and cooled leather seats, apple car play and all around better infotainment system, similar or better mileage and increased range).

The spare tire is still under the bed on the new ZR2. The bed mount is an option.

There's zero chance the spare tire would not be shredded if you actually took it on some trails more difficult than dirt roads.

The two i looked at were both straight off of the truck, so doubtful they had an issue. I took pictures but they were on the old phone.

That ZR2 is full beast mode. It's exactly what people have been clamoring for for years now. Midsize truck with a diesel engine with real clearances and front/rear lockers, etc. The only thing I can think of that people could complain about is that it doesn't have a manual transmission option. But that 8 speed transmission is nothing to sneeze at either. Not to mention that auto transmissions are clearly more efficient these days.

I guess it all depends on what you're after.

I picked up my '17 DBCB Sport M/T for 32k. I did like the power of the Hemi, but that is all I liked about the RAM. I really missed having a stick shift though which is the main reason I made the switch. I do very little towing/hauling, and when I do, the Tacoma will be able to handle all of my needs. My RAM only had 24k miles and already had a number of weird issues. I decided to dump it before I went upside down on it. Plus MPG was 13.5 on average. Even though the Tacoma doesn't get great mileage either, it will no doubt be better than the RAM.

I get that a full-size is comparable price, but I don't feel that its always the right choice to get as much size and capability as possible for your money. I can pay a little less in gas, insurance, and purchase price, and get a truck that has better dependability/resale, looks better than any full-size, comes in a manual transmission, and offers more capability than I'll ever take advantage of. Just the right for me I guess.

I think this truck will prove to be as good, or probably better than the Tacomas off-road, but they still won't have Toyota reliability and resale. Plus they're still butt ass ugly just like the regular Colorado and Canyon.

Again- I'm not sold on the 'Toyota Reliability thing'. They've had their fair share of issues. Differentials, rotting frames, rear spring failures.. What I can tell is Toyota has a general reluctance to address known issues.

I never had issues like that with my Dodge 3/4 ton. The sun rotted the dashboard, and the fuel pump had to be upgraded. Other than that- general wear and tear replacement items, and I worked that truck pretty hard. Never had to lift it, add springs to carry a truck camper, fuss with anything in order to tow- it was a great truck with well over 200K on it when I sold it and plenty of life left..

I have no doubt that the Tacoma is a good truck, and for the right owner just enough truck. My mistake was approaching it with the mindset- "Well I can make due with it... It's more efficient..." Big mistake on my part...

Whole statement so true. And when it comes to a vehicle if money is not a larger factor, one should not "make due" to many what ifs and should ofs

Diesels are the most reliable engines on the road and have been for decades now. That alone means the ZR2 or other diesel Colorado/Canyons shouldn't be a concern for reliability and so far have done very well.

I love my GMC Sierra. I owned two 2nd gens before my Sierra...I don't miss either of them despite the fact that they were great trucks.
