    OK,
I think I am one of the rare folks that have a 2016+ auto Taco that doesn't have the issue. My truck could have the first software update but not the 2nd one. To me this means there must be a mechanical problem with some transmissions and Toyota is trying to fix it with software. Here are the TSB listed symptoms, if you have any of them post the ones you have and build date of your Taco. If you don't have any just post your born on date. This can be found on the sticker drivers door sill.

Some 2016 – 2017 model year Tacoma vehicles equipped with the 2GR engine and the AC60 6-speed automatic transmission may exhibit one or more of the following shift feeling concerns:

 Delayed engagement Park to Drive or Reverse to Drive.
     Harsh 1st – 2nd upshift.
 Delayed upshift when using cruise control.
 Busy shift-like hunting gear behavior when driving on highway speed/slight grade.
 Engine flare during 3rd to 4th gear shift when in cold condition after several hours soak.

The Engine Control Module (ECM, SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM) calibration has been revised to address this condition.

    No symptoms, 08/16

Oh dear god not another one.

Not all truck owners experience the conditions. It's all dependent on how you drive it, and how much these conditions bother you.
Some owners jump to conclusions too, as this transmission seems to need 600+ miles to truely learn it's shift parameters when new.

mine did experience the drive/reverse delay and constant hunting on highway issues, and 3-4 flare when cold. Flare did NOT seem like it was a result of the first update, as it did it before I did that one. It didn't change until the revision.

Issues seems to be purely from a software standpoint. I've been updating toyota ECUs for over a decade and these conditions are nothing different than any other vehicle I've done. Extremely mild in comparison to some!

My truck is a 6/2016 build.

You need to make an option that says we got the TSB and it was fixed.... why can't I choose that?

I had the initial TSB done and the delay from park to drive was eradicated. An issue I still have that hasn't been brought up much, if at all, is when slowing down to a stop, like at a red-light, it will smooth to decelerate until nearing a full stop and the transmission will shift into a lower gear and try to pull the truck forward with some torque, even though I'm literally trying to stop.

I'm an avid manual driver, but I purchased an auto so my family members could drive it if need be, but my god I wish I just got a god damn manual to begin with. I love everything about this truck ACCEPT FOR the POS auto tranny Toyota decided to pair with this engine. I have no issue with the amount of power the drivetrain makes, but the erratic nature of the transmission kills the driving experience for me.

Rant over. I love my truck, but the shifting behavior is the one thing I wish was more refined.

I have not gone in for any tsb as I don't feel any issue with delays
or shifting, never have. I do get the shutter feeling when braking which some
point to the drums possible being out of round but I don't get it all the time and
to me if they're truly out of round I should feel it 100% of the time.

I guess I'm the only one in here with the latest revision. Guys...whether or not you are experiencing the issues, all new Tacomas are going to be shipping with this version of the ECU/Transmission flash. My 2017 had the original updated version (Rev 0?) when I bought it and while I didn't experience any delays from P to D or cruise control issues, I was unhappy with the shift points, and on occasion would experience a shift flare. The new update resolved all that for me. Drive still is very much "eco" but just use the ECT button if you want more pep, which I do, and I'm extremely pleased with how it drives now.

Whether or not you are feeling the problems, go get the updates. Trust me...the truck WILL drive better.

The only downside I can see is mileage suffering. Since I've had this truck I've been unable to get better than 21 mpg to a tank, even with mostly highway driving. I'm usually able to get better than rated, so I suspect these updates dropped MPGs 2-3. Decide for yourselves if it's worth it, but to me, it absolutely would be.

I didn't know if they put TSBs in production vehicles or not (production break). I get my scan tool this week and I will see if I can see the revision number in the ECU. I know they do recalls that way. I can tell you this and I drive this truck hard and live in Utah and have lots of climbs . I don't have any of the TSB issues, but I only have 1200 miles on it. My mind is still leaning towards a defect that they are covering up with software. A shift flare and most of the others would be hard to miss. OH, and I get 16MPG with 75% highway and 25%city. I drive 75-80 on the freeway.

You have a 2017 so you already have the first revision (go look for the yellow sticker on your door jam that says reduced towing capacity) so you wouldn't have any "issues" aside from the flare, which only occurs under very specific scenarios. At 1200 miles you may not have even driven it enough to experience it as it only happens at just the right temperature after being cold and with the right throttle input/grade of road to induce the flare.

I had one bad flare at like 800 or 900 miles under just the right scenario, and every other flare I wouldn't even probably notice if I didn't have that one big one and knew it was occurring.

I got to test drive a 17 for a couple days and it constantly shifting up and down, it was especially bad going up long grades.

The original tsb fixed my R to D delay and seems ok now. 2/16 build. No yellow sticker or anything under hood, but paper documented.

I get something similar to that.
When moving forward or backward with my foot on the brake at less than 1 mph, the engine seems to lurch, or rev up for just a second causing the truck to almost jump. And it will do this repeatedly as long as I continue to move forward/backward at the same speed.
Sometimes it occurs more when turning under these same conditions.
Seems to happen most all the time whether the engine is warm or cold.
    Engine just turned 1k miles.

You probably still have the updated code. Not everyone got one, but if you do, it's a guarantee.

Looked at first and rev1 TSBs and did not see anything about reduced towing capacity and they are only affixing the modification sticker if they do the TSB. What is driving the reduced towing capacity? I would think with a reduction in capability you would have grounds for returning the vehicle or compensation through a class action. I will ask the dealer about this yellow sticker. Would you mind posting a picture of the yellow sticker?

    Thanks Glenn

IMG_7763.jpg Mine has the delay from R to D, but no other symptoms. I'll leave it like this for awhile, as it doesn't bother me too bad if I let it engage slowly or just lightly throttle up. Maybe by the 10k service, I'll mention it. I'm not taking it in for the 5K for a tire rotation and brake inspection that can be done on my own.
Mine does have that reduced towing capacity sticker added to it from the day I got it though.

You know....looking at the TSB it does say there's an authorized modification label but I think that may be what is put under the hood.

The yellow sticker might not be related to this TSB...I believe that another TSB exists to address the "rumble strip" by way of updated rear springs. That would certainly make more sense as having an impact on load carrying capacity than the transmission update.

GPsevenSixx and others with the yellow sticker, do you have the rumble strip feeling in the 15-25mph range? I don't... (this probably needs a new thread lol)
