cant get 285/75/16 spare to fit without rubbing

I read all the posts about people being able to fit a 285/75/16 spare tire under the bed by cutting the 2 tabs. I cut the tabs and my tire fits, but without the tabs it sometimes slides forward which puts it right over the rear differential. I can see marks on the rear diff where the tire rubs. I tightened the spare tire cable all the way until it clicks so im sure its as tight as it can get. This is also with the hitch removed. Any suggestions besides a tiregate or mounting it in the bed?

 

I dont know. I will be putting mine in the bed. You can mount it on a roof rack. lol

 

find a spot to weld some new tabs on

 

would mounting the spare flat be a stupid idea? I can just air it up if i needed it.

 

The tire is still the same size and weight if it's flat. There's just no air in it now. Do you plan on keeping a compressor in the truck?

 

If you have on board air no. But I dont know if that will make much difference.

 

I have one of those cheaper masterflow air compressors. They are supposed to inflate a flat tire within 2-3 min. I just figured if it was flat it wouldn't be putting as much pressure on the rear diff when they hit eachother during bumps

 

You could try tying it to something on the other side to keep it from swinging towards the diff

 

I might try something like that.

If all else fails i'll just throw it in the bed during trips. Just didn't like the idea of losing so much bed space. Thanks for the suggestions
