Yeah I don't have much interest in owning one. It would be nice having it easy for once but Im not one for dealing with issues. My buddys 14 door hinges started rusting and bubbling through the paint and they refused to cover it basically until the entire hinge rusts

But, but, but... then the drive to the trail head will not be nearly as nice. I really like his build's ability to drive to the office all week, then pick up and drive a couple hundred miles to a trail head and tackle some gnarly terrain on the weekend. I have a similar philosophy with mine.. I'm just a little behind.

I'm sure you could, and I know we don't build our rigs for fuel economy or highway driving; but I just can't imagine that being pleasant or affordable for a roadtrip. I hear 40's are expensive and I'd hate to burn them up on a freeway.

People say these things about my truck on 33's though.. so whatever, I guess.

A somewhat local guy to me dailys his swapped 2nd gen on 40s, Im not seeing any reason why you couldnt. You are still running a MT (no difference in road noise) You mileage went down soon as you left the 31" stock tires it doesn't get much worse or better once you start going to 35s and up. You'll burn up the tires if you don't balance them other wise its no different than your other tires, maybe even better since it has a larger rotational contact area where it spins slower than a 35 going the same speed

Yeah I have every intention to DD mine after I get it done, plus full float axles are better than what we have in terms of being able to break something and not be stranded

Fair assessment. I'm still thinking decrease in ride quality ditching the IFS for solid axle, plus increased center of gravity with the SAS and 40's making corners even less fun. But it's probably not as big of a difference as I am speculating.

My guess is we both dive right into it at the same time lol

You don't ditch the IFS for ride quality tho, plus its what you make of it. Run a sway bar, adjust the compression on the shocks for a stiffer ride, keep the truck low (just because its 40s and solid axle doesn't mean it needs a 10" lift)

Ok I concede. Does anyone have a good SAS kit for 2nd gens or are they all still completely custom? Rock Solid Toys talked about offering a complete kit a while ago here, but it seems to have never happened. Cool rigs he builds tho

I can be, If I'm working in the same place I did all this year I should be able to use the bike for a commuter.

Ill try to talk to austin a little more, maybe we can just borrow space at his place since he will be able to help us out in a pinch. We both need to swap transfer cases first

I think he can get you everything together but the thread probably lost interest for him. He has his own forums so much more information is there. I think most people that go through him just have him do the swap

I don't DD my truck :anonymous:

This is my goal right here. Ride height and 40's with 1 ton axles. This truck and @Unleashed4x4's truck on 42's..

Honestly I'd rather tow it to trails further than 50 miles away.. my dad's superduty is so much more comfortable and quieter than my taco it's incredible. Plus the fuel economy will be better towing it than driving it over the mountain pass on 40's.

    I didn't realize you had a DD.

I definitely understand the appeal of towing a trail rig around. I just don't plan on dedicating my current taco to trail rig for a long time. It still has DD duty as well as being the only truck I have for dump runs and trips to the hardware store. One day in the distant future I might do the tow pig mod and go crazy with the taco.
