I did this very thing a couple nights ago. Coyotes chased the deer from the pasture across the road, around the house and on across the cornfield behind the house. They left the 4 penned goats alone.

Unfortunately, here in Canada (to the best of my understanding) taking meat after a MVA is not allowed. My brother was going hunting and saw a beautiful buck get hit by a vehicle. He pulled over to put it out of it's misery. He then called the conservation officer because he was willing to take this one instead of going and shooting another and was told "absolutely not"! Had to leave it. Go figure.

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
This looks like an excellent reason for that high clearance steel bumper that my wife is fighting me on...

Glad to hear your alright. Shame about your truck, I would be bummed out too but at least you have replacement insurance. I did the same thing in a VW Jetta at the same speed and my airbags didn't go off either. VW technician told me the deer weight is higher up then the sensors would be and it takes a serious accident to get them to go off anyway.
I also doubt your frame is bent, it's likely all cosmetic and bolt off / bolt on stuff they can easily replace. They didn't write my Jetta off and it looked worse, hood was folded up almost to the windshield!

Another reason I think the frame may be bent is that I had a hard time opening my door after the collision. I had to really put my shoulder into it. Thoughts?

When my old 2000 was wrecked my drivers door did that too, the drivers side tire hit directly into a tree and bent the frame and pushed the floor all the way up into the clutch pedal. It was in the body shop for 48 days total and had 42 Hours of Frame Repair, never felt right driving after that.

Love the responses from people that think a quality aftermarket plate bumper will save your truck in a deer strike. Those people have never hit a deer.

    Reserected from the dead.
The fender is pushed into the door, not the frame. Its normal. I'm pretty sure you can count on the truck getting fixed. Not enough damage to total it.

Had a friend hit a deer at 60+ with a plate bumper... Had to scrape the hair and skin off. No damage to truck or bumper.

I've hit deer, but not with a plate bumper. I'd imagine a good plate bumper will provide additional protection and maybe change direction of the forces involved.

Now is a good time to upgrade to an ARB front bumper eh?
