I would think 4lo every time just to get max torque to the tires. Of course only go straight, no turns. Is my logic off?

Never even thought of using a recovery strap like the third picture. Is that really a safe way of doing it?

If it's a straight pull it's going to be fine. If the pull is to the side (or up/down) you will chafe the strap on the receiver and that's no good. It's a lot safer than using a ball, which happens all the time.

I've done it on a straight & level pull when the other truck didn't have a tow point in the rear.

A properly equipped off-road vehicle should really have something like a receiver adapter to give you more flexibility.

Like mentioned, it depends on the situation. Most times 1st gear 4hi works best. A proper snatch strap (like the ARB) is designed to stretch, and then slingshot the stuck truck out. In order for it to stretch you need a bit of speed. I'll start in 4hi 1st, do a tug, and if it doesn't work then drop it into 4lo.

How? Do you charge people to recover them?

Aussie, are you billing the dealership you work at for moving "no start" vehicles around? LOL.

I work on almost every tow in. We get paid flat rate. So more I work on, more I get paid

Look the best option to insert the pin is the open end facing upward (see pic attached).

    Is this ok/secured/safe?

The pin facing down like that is probably not the SAFEST installation method, but it's not immediately un-safe. I would wrap a zip-tie through the eye and around the safety chain loop just to be sure a branch does not snag the pin and pop it out.

That guy is a bigger dick than I am, so I would go with banned. Although he claimed to have a bigger penis? Also, I've been in time out and didn't get the slash across name that I noticed.

not having one of those tow bar shackles, in a pinch in the past, I've wrapped the tow strap around the big beefy square crossbar part of the receiver assembly. obviously this won't work if there isn't sufficient room to squeeze the strap's hook between the tow frame, and the vehicle bumper or frame.
