    Howdy TacomaWorld,

My apologies in advance if this topic has been covered. I am still getting used to the layout of this vast forum and may have missed a thread covering this topic.

Does anyone know if there is a way to tune the ECU for our '16s/'17s?

I know there are ecu mods for the previous gen that, according to reviews, seems to be pretty awesome in gaining some extra HP / TQ to the ground.

Mind you I stepped out of a modified STI into my Tacoma, so of course the boy-racer within wants to go faster.

    Thanks!

no external tuning on 05+ ECMs like your STI. Toyota essentially has them locked

You have the stock map or the super charged map.

05-15 you can get a piggyback ECM like a UCOM or APR but without forced induction its not really good for any real HP.

At least one company is selling tuning software, but it's targeted toward professional tuners.

This generation Toyota ECU has been reverse engineered for similar platforms, but the Tacoma isn't a very high-value target. NA tuning gains are likely minimal.

Several companies are offering ECU tuning services. At least one member has posted a before and after dynograph after having Orange Virus tune the car.

days of tuning and high gains are gone for NA engines.
want more power time to add some turbo or supercharger.
And from what I understand the toyota ECU isn't flashable like your STI was. You need a stand alone system like Unichip or something.

Ex-Subaru owner here too, Cobb AccessPort has spoiled us.

I wouldn't say the gains were minimal, there are Lexus 2GR-FKS'es making 311 HP on a factory tune. Theoretically at least that much power should be achievable in a Taco.

I went for the 2.7L 4 banger, it's waaaaaay slower than my WRX but I make do... I already put a header on it but other than that there's not really much to do because if the 3.5 isn't a big tuner target, the 2.7 is doubly undesirable to spend R&D money on.

Yikes... Could have expected these type of condescending responses on NASIOC but didn't expect to find that here!

Definitely was spoiled with the AP however protuning is always the way to go in my book anyway. I dont mind spending the extra coin to get it done right - in fact I would prefer that.

I guess I'll have to put the boy racer aside for now and settle with a cbe and cai lol. As long as I dont have to worry about ringland failure, rod bearing issues, knock feedback, etc. I am happy haha

It's a bummer because I still think there's a market for it. There are a few tunes for the GM twins that boost 20-30 hp and ft-lbs. Other than power increases, they increase pedal feel and fix the shifting problems (tunes the engine and transmission)..and it's a flash loader you do by yourself at home. For ~$300 dollars I think it would be worth it.
