some states you only can get one tag so its not worth it to shoot little ones...I prefer 2.5-3.5yr old does for freezer/food. If you are in a state where you have multiple deer tags i see no prob taking little ones :)

Definitely if you only get one or two you want an older one. I have put 5 whitetails in the freezer this year. I only want ones now that the whole back leg easily fits in my smoker. We hunt on one ranch that the owner begs us to shoot more does.

We can take 10 does and 2 bucks here.

Honestly, I wish they'd cut back on it. Seems to be fewer deer here in Fannin over the last few years. I havne't taken a doe this year, and won't unless I go to a WMA hunt in mid december.

Only 1 buck and 1 doe per family member (not including elk) for us. Generally 4 do us great. Not to mention the bucks are bigly. We've got three in the freezer and so far about 180lbs of meat. One more good doe and that gets us to 225-230lbs. And then there's ducks, pheasants, geese... Oh yeah...

Our land only has a few does each year...no more than 5-6, so I always let them walk unless the freezer is empty. The wife doesn't eat much venison, so 1-2 deer lasts me all year. Say what you want about food plots and corn, but does are the #1 attractant of bucks during the rut and I'm not gonna go and shoot my bait!

Medium sized doe presented a very quick harvest shot.

About the only thing I miss about MD...was how many deer you could take, but thats not worth living in MD in my opinion.

Wow that would be a hefty doe for us. Some do get that size but not as many.

She's maybe 3 years old. Already in the fridge for final cutting after work.

Yeah- When I lived in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia we could harvest a lot of whitetail. But I would never move back. Not.Ever.

You couldnt pay me a million $$ to move back to the east coast...

Our does around here average about 120-130 on the hoof. The big ones are really old and not very good eating.

last year season went from oct 15-jan 31 (gun season opens the sat before thanksgiving every year) and you could take 2 does a day or a buck and doe every day, limit 3 bucks a year. this year there are 2 does seasons for gun hunting with a total of 18 days I think so in theory you can still take 39 deer here just with a gun, and if you bow and muzzle loader hunt there are another 60 ish does you could take. I usually like to put a couple does in the freezer and then I horn hunt, but my wife put a small buck in the freezer already so ill likely put 1 more doe (if I can see one) in the freezer and sit in the woods disappointed the rest of the year

My buddy found this crime scene while on the mountain the other day: a bear and elk carcass next to each other. Nature is brutal.

That's the question ... my guess is the bear took down the elk, a bigger bear or maybe wolves wanted the elk more, killed the smaller bear and ate both. But who knows. I just saw his pics of it.

I would have saved the bear skull. My neighbor and I found a bear carcass in late sept I kept the skull and boiled/bleached it. It had a couple missing teeth but still looks good.

When I used to butcher hogs we had a basic country sausage recipe that always works well. Brown sugar, kosher salt, cracked pepper and sage if you want. Super easy and pretty tasty.

You can add all sorts of spices to it. We've added red pepper flakes, thyme, nutmeg at various times. I like it a little more plain though. Sugar, salt, pepper, sage. Easy peezy.

If you are using venison I tend to go 1/4lb pure hog fat (cubed) to 3/4 lb venison for breakfast sausage.
