I have a Fumoto valve. I love it, but wouldn't run it without a skid. Unless you keep to the pavement, then it doesn't matter I guess.

Fumoto valve, only complaint is that it seems to take forever for the oil to drain compared to the drain plug.

It's not too bad, gives me time to crawl around the frame while it's draining.

The drain valve is great- with tubing attached, I drain the oil right into a gallon jar- I no longer need to use a catch pan.

The valve doesn't extend below the cross member. No need for a skid plate.

Fumoto for sure. I agree that you should have a skid. I drive through a lot of brushy areas and a bush could grab the lever and drain your oil.

I've got one on my Tacoma. I'm definitely nervous about it and planned on putting my drain plug back on when it came time to change my oil. I liked how easy it was to change my oil so much that I couldn't see removing it.

A bush would literally have to grow fingers, grab a pair of pliers, remove the "o" clip, and then press the spring compressed lever over and then down. Sounds extremely plausible. That's why there's all these threads about fumoto drain valves failing.

Fumoto in all of my vehicles. The flexibility if allows (even if used rarely) is well worth the price of admission.

Crazy shit happens off-road and a rock could easily bounce up and knock that thing off IMO.

One time I was pulling out of a shopping center and had to run over a palm tree branch laying in the road. It jammed up in my shift linkage and stuck my car into neutral. Freak accidents happen and having a 1.5" object hanging from the bottom of your oil pan is definitely more of a risk than NOT having it.

Skids are definitely a good idea, regardless of using the Fumoto valve.
