I leave you guys alone for a few hours and you go all on me and forget half the entries. Previous winner is null and void because official entries post wasn't made yet and others were left out.

We pick a winner off of the official entries post I do every Monday. That way no one gets left out and if they do it's my fault. Then they can slap me around for it instead of someone else.

I wonder if posting other pictures that are not part of the challenge may be confusing, original rules stated that only entries were to be posted. On the other hand Murph or others have usually brought order to the week by posting official challenge pics. Many of us have learned a lot because of this thread and I know it has cost me a fair amount of money in other equipment from what I have learned . Some of that comes from pictures posted outside of the challenge, in addition to the critical reviews which are nuggets of gold. So with that said.....

For this I used on camera flash. I have a Pentax AF540fgz flash and light stand that I use off camera when the situation warrants it. I went with Pentax for the weather resistance and wildlife in the winter and rain however flashes are a weakness in that area. For birding and most wildlife shooting I use a 300mm with a 1.4tc and to me that setup doesn't warrant a gimbal head and offset flash mount which eliminates the steely eyes. Once I hit the lottery and can afford a Sigma 500 f/4.5 or Pentax 560mm that would change I can eliminate the eye effect in lightroom or paint in less time than I can setup a flash off camera, and for this because the target wasn't exactly in focus the eyes didn't bother me as much. Still a keeper shot, but not an excellent shot. To use off camera flash you have to know exactly where your target is going to be. That can happen once you tape off all the holes on a feeder except for one LOL. At that point you can also move the camera in closer on a tripod and use a remote to get really close.


Now I need about 3 lights and stands. But a gimbal head and rig is definitely high on my list. Someday....

Jumping in on this quickly! Before bed last night snapped this of the pooch.

 

Since I'm not allowed to win this week . I figured the (mediocre) timelapse I did of the sunrise on Monday would be nice to share instead of a singular low light photo.

The light emanating from the center into the sky was one of those night sky attraction spotlights. We had planned a group nighttime photog meet up and this threw a little kink into our plans.
