Pretty sure that the thread you want was started by Nick - @Crom - and he also discusses the Trac all the time mod in the same thread.

Heard there was engineering afoot at Marlin and a "new and improved" model is coming. I haven't followed the progress so I don't know what the time frame is.

Well that's cool. 8 lug rims are less cool. No ABS provisions not cool. Fucking badass for a dedicated trail rig, but I'll pass for my multiuse Taco. (lol also passing because $$$)

The only thing good about 8 lug is you'll have wayyyy more options when it comes to beadlocks. Toyota pattern you only get a handful of options. Ill probably stick with the toyota pattern just because I probably wont be able to do both front and rear when the time comes so Ill just convert the axle to 6 lug, Now when I get both axles I might swap the front axle back to 8 lug for better wheel options and keep everything easy to find ford parts incase something breaks

Yeah.. I can't see myself doing both axles at the same time either. Too much cost and down time to deal with all at once.

On another note, I think we've successfully turned this build thread into a "thoughts on SAS" thread. :threadjacked:

Edit: gear ratios could be an issue with doing one axle at a time?... I'm not sure what's available for other diffs. Sounds like those portals aren't available in numerically low enough ratios to match what I've got now

I would only solid axle at the time of putting 40's on. Which means doing both axles at the same time. Probably run 5.29 gears
