That's a solid unit. I know a guy that runs this one from Rugged and could hear him 15 miles out while in the Mojave:

Either way 25 watt or 50 watt are both substantial step ups from the little handhelds most people use including myself. After wheeling with enough rigs with hard mounted systems I'm over the handhelds. With the added boost antennae they're just to awkward to fumble around with. Good to lend out as loaners thought.

Also, if you buy from Rugged they're local and they will program your unit nicely for ya.

I hear ya. I barely understand it myself. When I took the ham test I didn't know half of what I was looking at. I just memorized a bunch of recognizable terms and hoped for the best. Got it the first time and hardly learned a thing. Ha.

 

I tried reading the book and fell asleep when they started on circuits and wave length. LOL! I held off on certification because I only used the hand held, but I would like to venture into the 15-25 mile (or further) range.

she thinks it's funny how I'm always reading stuff on here then working on my truck. She rolls her eyes at anything to do with the truck. I'll take that instead of her saying no to the purchases or no to truck time.

 

haha my Gf loves the way my truck is looking, but doesn't approve of the money im spending lol, just ordered my RTT, coming in this monday and @Yotamac is making my custom bed rack, super stoked

 

As long as she likes the truck! Can't wait to see it! I tried to get on that group buy you were on but I jumped on the S/C group buy instead.

 

im hoping buy the time i have the rest of my gear on the truck, bed rack, rtt, armor, ect. that forced me to need a SC, they might be a little cheaper lol

 

The price dropped significantly since the group buy. I think they are going to make the price point at the GB price point. They sold 50 units at $4k. To tell you the truth, I just got mine running smooth... I wish I did it earlier. I drove it to Apple Valley just so I can feel the torque on the incline and I never left 6th gear. I just have to put the trailer on it to see how it acts under load. I absolutely love it!

I want to get an RTT so I can just go. Having a camper is nice, but it is too much trouble if it is just me camping. Maybe a Spring purchase.

 

yeah thats true, i really want to SC it, so maybe one day, but yeat i need a new Dakar leafs 1st lol
