I know the more expensive ones obviously can handle more weight and well even look better most of the time I guess, but personally I'd be happy with some of these lol but yeah just want to know if there are any cons.

There's cons to both wheels. Alloys bent on the trail you can't bend back if needed. Took me 8 shops to finally find a guy that had the skill to do so as I needed a spare for death valley which I was leaving for in a day. Once the heat is applied to the alloy the structural integrity is lost forever. I only used it as a spare for the trip.

Steelies are heavier. About 10 lbs heavier per wheel with my factory 17's. So expect a hit at the pump. My rig is so fat now gas is just a chuckle to me. Albeit a painful chuckle. You can bend back a steel wheel on the trail but I would still have a shop machine it asap or good luck getting it to balance it right again.

A wheel rated at 2k to 2200 lbs and you'll be fine.

Steel rusts, aluminum does not. Both can be touched up.

I think there's tons of aluminum after markets that are sick looking but I was just outside doing a post DV inspection of my rig and of course even more wheel gouges were found - which I'm good with. Aftermarket alloys probably aren't for me. Not now at least. So many other mods and add ons I need first. Plus the cost of financing my trips. A grand on wheels is a week to Moab.

Steelies are 2 pieces. The center is stamped into shape, and then welded to the barrel.

No wheel will hold up to everything. Also, forged is always an option.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
    Well said.

Ya'll worried about scratching up or damaging wheels are funny in your <5yr old trucks.

Smash a shock? ALL IN GUD FUN
Smash a tire? ROMP LIKE IT'S HAMMERS
Ding a wheel? OH GOD WE GONNA DIEEE.

Thanks for the info. Now I'm second guessing my decision. My aggressive wheeling style will likely screw up any rims I buy. But I'd probably destroy those ray 10 beadlocks. hmmm:notsure:

Its not that I'm nervous of gashing wheels. I'm doing it meow. Its that that dough can go other places. Daddy wants to hit Moab, Yosemite, and the Grand Canyon next year. Best Xmas gift I can get from the parentals is the America the Beautiful pass. Lol

    ^Won't fit a 2nd gen taco.
I believe it was Wheeler's that made steelies that fit our trucks in a 16", but from what I've read they're no longer available.
Pro Comp won't fit, it'll hit the calipers. Run a wheel spacer or grind down the caliper and it'll fit.

As for the load rating, it is stronger in the sense that it can take a harder hit before breaking.

Alloy wheels look trick and cost more, but if you break one you need to replace it. Not much real luck in repairing them. As @goblue82 mentioned the integrity is gone after it's been heated and fixed. Granted easy to find replacements as most places carry all kinds of aftermarket brands. You can pick up aftermarket alloy 16-17" wheels for anywhere from 100/each to 300+/each. Most are around 120-200 per wheel.

Steel wheels are cheap, heavy, strong and reliable. Downside is it's now difficult to get 16" steel wheels for Tacomas.

Steelies ftw! I run the cheap ones. Still think they are 2k weight rated. Haven't broke them yet. I love those scs wheels. Backspacing too aggressive for me. I'd blow up wheel bearings and steering racks

Yeah, I hadn't really been looking for wheels, but then I saw those and like I said, I'm not really looking to spend too much and I actually dig the steelies look.

Well I already have a lift and running 285's..might change up the suspension, but more likely going after armor for now. I've been lagging on getting sliders, which what I really should be focusing on since I'm ok with the stock wheels for now.

Yeah, if the wheels don't bug you get armor. Wheels last. When it is time, focus on 16" x 8" with 0mm offset and 4.5" back spacing. Or peep the classifieds and find a deal haha

OMG jury duty is so boring. The case I'm here for is a joke. Can't believe my time is wasted for this stupid shit. Our system is pathetic. Sorry for the rant. It's my first time doing it and I'm a little blown away

My work pays me for jury duty but I never get called. I'm always hoping they can put me on a case so I can get a few days off from laboring.

It's discrimination case and a ridiculous one like most are. My company has the best benefits you can ask for but they only pay 1 day or jury duty.FML

That sucks. Hopefully the defense won't want you on the jury. I know guys that have been paid to sit there for 3 months (don't think I could handle that)

Yeah I'm falling asleep in there. But I'm catching on to these guys that say certain things that would make them not wanted on the jury. My group speaks next so I'm gonna play that game too. lol:devil:
