You can engage 4hi while moving if you have to, I think you have to be at or under 55mph(?) to engage though. It shouldn't sound awful or anything, at most it's an audible "clack" sound that's sometimes louder than others.

No worries, I notice you have a 2001 Tacoma...if you need the owner's manual for it, you can download it from this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2001-2004-tacoma-factory-service-manual.5696/

I'm sure there's an online version for the 2007 on here somewhere as well

No apology needed... How about the info card in your sun visor pocket?

Very odd... I had a 2001 Tacoma (and a 2005 and 2010) and they all had a plastic pocket on the bottom side (when flipped up) with the 4WD use card in it... that I posted a close up of.

Any other 4WD Tacomas that did not have the plastic pocket with the card?

In any case, you can read the card and the how to go into and out of H4 and L4, which has remained unchanged for the entire 2nd Gen Tacoma line.

Thanks for the info on pavement vs loose roads. I know there is a lot to learn about 4wd and its components and trail riding.

Just don't worry too much. We have gone a couple months without 4WD used, more than once. Just rotate the dial into H4 when you are on long staight-a-ways every so often.
Practice L4 use just in front of your home. Straight wheels only.

It's the name of a place
I have a date farm there

Date trees need lots of water
If I paid the city I couldn't afford to make money on the farm
Thus the pump to get free water

    I employ messicans
    Trump would be proud

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
So I drove 200 miles in 4hi a week ago. I'm good for 20 months then right?
