around 3k. Pushing a button is what ALL cars do these days. Our Mercedes (which is going in today for engine rebuild at 11k miles) defaults to auto stop/start enabled and "comfort" mode every time you start it. Cars default to eco modes these days, and Drive is this transmission's version of "eco"

I'm tracking, I understand the ECO vs PWR argument and discussion. My point is the shifting and jerkiness of the trans and associated driveline components. There really isn't a valid excuse for the banging of gears and clunking of the trans as the truck comes to a stop light or the holding of gears on the highway without the ability shift up or down. I know there are growing problems with a new truck and trans combo, but I don't see how "brand loyalty" is going to carry me through the next 5 years with this specific toyota model. My wife, mother, father and sister all drive a toyota model of some sort and I doubt this will be the last one I own, but it may be the last tacoma that is parked in my driveway. I bought the truck for its ability to get somewhat decent mileage, and toss a few things in the bed. So far it's been lacking in those categories.

I've not followed your issues, but have you received the latest revision (11/15 availability) and still have those complaints with the transmission?

My issue is that the truck is not an iPhone, needing to be updated with new software every 3 months and I don't know what the future holds for a truck with as many trans issues as this truck.

Again, my concern is that I had the first TSB done and It worked temporarily then I was back to square one. I have made an appointment to have the new trans software installed, but I don't hold too much confidence in the fact that It will be a cure all for the issues in the drivetrain that have popped up. I understand that you have had excellent luck with yours and the update, I hope that is the case for my truck as well.

you're not wrong, but this is also a brand new transmission for Toyota so there are bound to be updates needed. It's fantastic that, so far, it seems updates are resolving the complaints rather than material part defects which are invasive, require downtime, and generally take much longer to get pushed out.

I agree, but I also take some blame here as well. Who in their right mind buys the first year of anything automotive now, I was always told to stay away but this time I went in and now the owners are becoming the guinea pigs for the unknown trans and engine combo.

Frustration is all this really has boiled down to. Talk about a first world problem...my brand new truck shifts kinda funny when I drive it to my full time job with benefits and 3 weeks off a year....

This is my last time buying a first year model as well. I had mine flashed again yesterday. Has anyone put on 1000+ miles after current flash?

This is my 6th 1st model year vehicle and is the least problematic so far, by a long shot. Of course it's still early and the trouble usually started 10k+ miles into ownership for the others.

edit: ok, 2017 not quite the first model year, but close...not too many fixes from 2016 applied.

Jca1386(Joe), you are only venting and speaking out for many of the owners of afflicted Tacomas. This is America , as Americans we are to be heard, so good for you, you and your money deserve the best product, after all it's a Tacoma, and well we just expect more. Thanks for speaking out. Long live Tacoma. Man up Toyota! , time to shelve the expression"your vehicle is operating as per design" , really!

Scooby24, you possess the patience of Job! One would imagine with all your vehicle acquisition debacles, you would have more of a voice , after all you spent your hard earned money for what we all imagined was an updated, improved, better performing Tacoma. Kick the towing test to the side, for most applications Tacoma owners acquire their mounts for ruggedness, dependability, quality and so many other attributes, but alas Toyota stumbled, they know it, dealers are aware and the final users, Tacoma owners. Toyota corp. is a big boy, no need to pat them on their backs for for the valiant efforts to "Fix" the third generation, you spent your money , case closed, get the lead out Toyota. Scooby24 you of all consumers deserve better!

It's as my old football coach told me. Know the difference between an ouchie and an injury. My vehicle history has taught me the difference between the two and I'm not about to call in the medics for an ouchie. I'll walk it off and eventually throw an ice pack on it and will be right as rain.

This is something that I think people dont think about. There is a cost to dealing with this BS. Even if we dont "pay" for the repair attempts or services. The time we spend driving to the dealership and the burden it puts on work/life to schedule services. Even if we get loaner vehicles (my dealership has been great about this and that process has been painless) it still impacts a lot of things.

It's a pain in the ass that we shouldn't have to put up with. I've been to the dealership at least two dozen times. It's a 20-60 minute drive depending on the shit traffic around here. At some point you just want to cut bait.

I've said it before, but I've been to the dealership for repairs/service more with this 2016 ultra-reliable Toyota Tacoma than I had been with my 4 previous high-mileage used vehicles combined. This is the kind of stuff people busted on Ford and GM about years ago.

    Amen to that.

I just scheduled my 5th trip to the dealer to try and figure this transmission out.
After sitting in their waiting room with a grumpy 2 year old for 2-3+ hours each time, I have decided to just leave the truck there for the day the last two times...

The most frustrating part is that Southeast Toyota Corporate is literally 5 minutes from my dealer, yet they keep making excuses not to send a tech.

I appreciate the feedback here guys, it's nice to know that there are others that are as frustrated as I am with the truck. Again, all we can do for right now is sit on our collective hands and see what comes out in the end. I have spent probably 4 hours and had a loaner car for a 24 hour span of time. I bought a truck for a reason and they stuck me with a destroyed yaris to tool around in. My wife's 2015 Rav 4 had some minor issue with a cruise control light, as well as a wicked squeal when applying the brakes in reverse. Their answer to the brakes were "normal metal brake noise", it appears that this is the day and age in which we live.

I have my case open with toyota corporate and they are well aware of the issues, as is the service manager at my local dealership. My concern lies with driving a truck with trans issues, will it be a detriment to the life of the truck or trans in the long run? Those who say no bluntly really cannot say as we don't TRULY know what the issues are with these trucks. Yes it is a new trans and engine combo, but let's not kid ourselves here as much as we like these trucks this isn't normal. I'm not bagging on those folks who are in love with everything toyota does and puts out but every once in a while they push out a turd to keep up with the times. The firearms industry as well as the fire service are guilty of it as well, as it happens quite frequently .

The sad reality for me is that there's a lot of $ to be lost if I were to trade this thing in for something else like a tundra or a 4runner. But I feel as though I shouldn't have to, has anyone gotten so far as to have a local or corporate dealer take a truck back in or something along those lines?

Personally I found the best way to enjoy my truck, in its current state, is to only drive it on the weekends and maybe one evening a week. I am sure the neighbors and coworkers think I am driving my 98 Maxima to save miles and wear and tear on the truck. They are wrong. I am doing it to save wear and tear on my nerves and patience. At least now when I do drive it I appreciate it a little more. I am sitting at 8450 miles and will take it in over the Christmas break for its 1 year service, oil change, tire rotation and the latest greatest transmission flash. I just hope they will apply the new flash without question as they did the original flash in July. Maybe by then we will see the new flash results on trucks with 1000 miles on them. Perhaps ToyotaCare will update their 6 month service to include tranny flashes as that seems to be my routine 6 month service. Before anyone takes offense when I say tranny flashes I don't mean the climax of transsexuals so my apologies if this pertains to any readers. Also in a related issue Mr Trump has inadvertently prolonged my original plans of possibly trading for a new 2018 Ranger. The plants that were moving Ford car manufacturing to Mexico are the plants Ford was going to tool up for the new Ranger and Bronco. Thank you s-o-o-o-o much Mr Trump.

Does anyone know if these issues/tsb's pertain to the 2017's?
