Ok after reading 12 or so pages of posts on exhausts and searching the forums I was not able to find out a thing or 2 (but did learn quite a bit). I am looking at installing a "performance" (read LOUD but not get the cops called on me loud lol) exhaust on my truck. I have a friend that is a certified mechanic who is going to be doing the work (I will be assisting because I want to learn more about the mechanical side of things). He is going to be switching me over to a 1 in 2 out muffler for dual exhaust. Now I was (still am) debating betwen the Flowmast 40 Delta Flow, 50 Delta Flow and (this is where the real question comes in) a Ravin muffler. Has anyone here ever heard one of the Ravin mufflers? I guess it's a brand his shop used to use alot before he started there and since they are clearing out their stock he can get it for me super cheap. But I don't want to get it supercheap and then wish I had paid the extra for the Flowmaster from the start. And I can't seem to find much as far as sound clips go for that brand

Also I have listened to alot of clips of the Flomaster from the outside of trucks (I have the V6) but haven't much of the sound difference inside the cab. Because while I want to hear that nice throaty "roar" outside I really don't want to have to turn my music up super loud to over power the roar.

Thanks for any and all advice guys!

Also on a side note - Step bars (preferably Black). I have heard good things about I believe the brand is Westin? How easy are they to install?

I can't tell you much about the exhaust but the step bars are a easy install and a great first step for the "did it myself satisfaction".

Where is a good place online (since I know at least in the PC field online is the place to get parts cheap so I am sure it's similar in the truck field) to by the nerf bars? I got a couple quotes from a few truck shops around town here and I am not sure if they are high or not.

So the 40 isn't extremely load inside the cab?

for the nerf bars.....try ebay first, as i have seen some really good prices on nerf bars there, and no, the 40 isnt loud in the cab at all, as far a running on the interstate or idling.....relatively quiet, bu5 when you get into the throttle.....it comes alive and you know its there. great sound!!!

another place for good prices for truck stuff is here......http://4wheelonline.com/

fwiw, there are 3 types of westins platinum, e-series, signature. If buying online go with the platinums (black over stainless never rust) the e-series and signature (3yr warranty) will rust from the inside out, right around the 3yr mark or less in the northeast anyway. Leaving you with rusty bars that you won't ship back to the online seller for warranty

I have the 40 series on my truck and it does get a little loud inside when you get on it, but thats the fun part! No complaints with it for me.

Definatly don't mind the loud when I hit the gas it's more the idling and steady cruising on the interstate that I am worried about being too loud.

Don't know. That was kinda my question. I really can't find alot of info on them. The website (www.go-ravin.com or something like that) doesn't seem to work anymore - really makes me skeptical.

Getting the Flowmaster 40 installed Thursday ..... can't wait. Still trying to find a good deal on the nerf bars as most of the places around here want $400+.

Ok guys... so far so good on the advice... I have search and didn't find anything at least not for the Gen 1 Tacos so here we go. I currently have a box in my truck but would like to get a cover for the bed without having to go with the cheesy roll fabric kind. Anyone know of a hard cover or at least rigid cover that can go on the Gen 1 PreRunners (1994 model) with a truck box?

The Flow 40 has been installed and WOW!!!! Nice low tone, especially on the gas. A little hum while at about 2300-2500 RPM (at 65-75 mph), alittle louder than I would have liked but for the additional tone during acceleration it's worth it, just have to turn up the radio 1 or 2 notches :)

Thanks for the advice - Next step is the Cold Air intake, Nerf Bars and Possible that Westin Safari Bar.
