Good idea ^. Are the brake lights coming on? Also, can you shift it out of park using the emergency release? Then you could just drive it to the dealer....

I wouldn't risk driving it. Toyota will pay for the tow. If the defrost isn't working he'll never clear his windshield of snow or ice when it's that cold out today. why risk injuring someone or himself? I doubt it's one single fuse, even if it is you'd want to know why or what caused it to burn out

The FIX - Thanks again everyone for all of your responses to my trouble. It was a long day. Toyota service called at 06:30 this morning saying a Tow Truck was on it's way. TT arrived at 08:30 the driver hooked up my truck and off we went to Romano Toyota in Syracuse. After 2 hours at the dealer the service rep. told me my trouble was caused by the after market remote starter I had installed. They could disable it for $100.00. I told them to forget it and asked if they could start the truck by use of the over ride switch. They did this for me and I drove the truck to the vendor who installed the remote. After a 3 hour wait they were able to fix my problem. Turns out there was a loose wire that needed to be relocated and grounded. Thanks again everyone.....Jim

I install them for a living. I don't know what they could of done, sounds like they fed you a line of bull crap. Everything is in different circuits and depending on what they used the brake input and stuff runs through the CAN wires. Ignition wires are all separate. My guess is they grabbed the second 12v wire at the ignition switch. It's only rated @ 5amps. If this blew it probably powers your second start and ignition wire. Which would explain why the shifter wouldn't release of it was powered by the ign 2 circuit. That's a rookie mistake is so

So yea, my truck exhibits the same issues except the shifting into first hasn't been a problem. The only one that really worries me is that screeching grinding noise for a split second when it fires up. All the other symptoms are explainable but that noise sounds damaging. Oil pump? Even this 0 weight oil is probably pretty thick at -20f no?

Maybe. I'm not a mechanic so I am not sure if a lighter oil would be ok or not.

I don't know but a block(oil) heater would be a good place to start. If the noise went away with the warmed oil you'd know you were in the right neighborhood. I have an old magnetic oil heater but I think we have aluminum oil pans.

May have been asked already, but is there any gear oil that is rated for colder weather? Seems like the oil they used may not have been rated for that cold. Once it gets warmed up you say it starts to drive better.

Sorry to revive an old thread but, I got in my truck last night (it was only 35F degrees) pressed my clutch in and it is very sluggish to return. I saw that atleast 1 person had this issue but theirs didn't do it till it was -15 out. My clutch pedal returned to normal feeling after about 5min of driving. I just wanted to know if this is a normal characteristic of these trucks or should I be thinking of making an appointment with the dealer?

Mine is definitely cold blooded. I have not heard too many others complain about it and my dealer said it was normal.

I'm fine with the clutch being a bit sluggish as long as it doesn't get way worse when it gets colder out. We rarely see anything like -15 here but 0 is pretty common.

    Glad this got bumped.

This morning was the first time my truck has seen under 30 degrees (built and bought this summer). It had nearly all of the same mannerisms @nevadabugle described but again it was only about 30 degrees out, not into the negatives that were described before. About a mile or two into my commute the truck warmed enough to shake out the symptoms.

Makes me wonder if a fluid change would help.

Yeah, been feeling the clutch pedal coming out just a bit slowly in 20 degree weather this week. Not a fan, since my commute takes me from my neighborhood to a left turn onto a 55 mph highway - can't be screwing up my shifts just because the truck is cold. Anyone find any better lubrication that might help the clutch? Or get anything done by the dealer?
