Aside from the cool factor, why is a turbo that much better than a supercharger? Is it more efficient? Similar power gain with better mpg? What is it about the turbo that offsets the drawbacks (lag, heat issues, complexity)? I'm not very knowledgable about FI, so I'm trying to understand why y'all seem to consider this so superior to a SC setup...

Turbochargers are driven by wasted energy (exhaust gases) as it exits the engine. Superchargers are driven mechanically by means of a belt which is usually attached to the crank pulley. In short, they consume energy to make energy.

More efficient, and can make wayyyy more power than a supercharger. and turbo lag can be minimized or non existent with a properly sized turbo

yes ish. a SC can only spin as fast as a belt and that is where boost stops, a TC that is sized correctly can make about as much boost as a motor can handle, and its pretty easy to adjust the boost on it (by changing wastegate spring or adding a boost controller or both), there is also much less parasitic effect from a turbo and that is usually negated completely since what little back pressure a turbo add is usually taken out of the stock exhaust system since it is completely replaced.

With a properly sized turbo on our trucks (1.5-2:1 BP) lag is not an issue. My truck sees 8psi before 2,000RPM

My turd sounds like a diesel chugging along the interstate. Obviously its dependent on throttle, but as soon as it sees any load the turbo is doing its thing.

Daily driving it, 5K miles and counting without a single major issue. I am going to put together a new wastegate actuator as the one on the truck now is kind of flaky. Been meaning to do that the last couple of weeks but I have very little time around this time of the year to tinker with my stuff

Been MIA but I didnt forget about the truck! I replaced the actuator with one of TiAL's MVI internal actuators so hopefully it will give me way better boost control than the last one. Haven't driven the truck in a while since I finished another project which I have been tinkering on for a while, but I will go back to daily driving the truck in a week to dial it in again
