Whenever my truck is in reverse there is a strong vibration and rattling noise coming from my front right tire area. I read some stuff on identifix at work about a tsb on the brakes that can cause a noise in reverse but I'm just not sure. As soon as I put truck in drive the noise dissapears. I have a 2007 prerunner with A locking rear diff. Any help and or hints will be greatly appreciated!

Does it happen when rolling backwards only? Stuck brake pad or caliper? bad spring? Maybe pull the tire and check the brakes, see if anything looks out of place? Or Does it happen when your standing still and just put it in reverse while you still have your foot on the brakes?

Maybe try activating the ABS a couple of times. Go to a grass field or gravel parking lot. Do a high speed reverse and slam the brakes to make the wheels lock up so you slide. Then do the same going forward, slam the brakes and make the wheels lock up so slide and ABS kicks in. try it a few times, see if it helps.

That dont sound right? ABS is only supposed to be fully activated on hard braking when wheels lock up. Scan it with an OBD or goto autozone and ask them to scan it for ABS codes. If you can borrow a scanner, plug it in and take a drive with the ABS sensors in Live mode, see if all 4 ABS wheel sensors are registering similar RPM?

You just need to take the wheel off and see what's going on. I'd go as far as removing the caliper and pads to get a better understanding if you don't see anything .

I just had the front brakes and rotors done. It made the noise before and after. Sometimes there is no noise at all, but it'll happen as soon as I put it in reverse, I don't even have to be moving. I just can't future it out. No abs codes stored no lights on.

It don't have anything to do with the brakes then.

In reverse and not moving... That is a head scratcher...

I would check the transmission and drive line as in Universal joints and carrier bearing.

Get under the truck with a rubber mallet and tap the exhaust lightly but hard enough to make it rattle. See if it makes the noise. I had this noise and it was a rock trapped in my catalytic converter heat shield. 5 minute fix if that's what it is. Usually only made the noise in reverse and rarely it would happen at idle in park.

Man it drives me crazy, everything works perfect, the noise is just killing me lol. Could be the body panels, hell at this point it could be anything.

What we need to do is go to a big parking lot and just have someone drive our trucks in reverse while we listen and can rule shit out. To me it sounds like front right fender ish, but honestly who knows maybe its under the hood. Just cant tell from the drivers seat, even after i hit a pole with my truck (thought it wasnt in the front right) ITS STILL THERE so idk man.

I smacked on it a few times, but then realized its like a rubbery plastic. This is like a metal on metal type thing.
