If they are paying for the additional gas and another bump in the financial compensation department, it might all work out.

Negatory. I've already worked out of that location doing that job as an intern. I would relocate to Idaho or Washington for them before I go back to Tillamook.

Is there a particular circumstance when the rapid engine clicking happens? .[/QUOTE]
On the drive home today heres what i noticed about "the click"
it does not happen while its cold
is most noticeable between 2400-3000, after that it may be drowned out by the engine
it gets louder as the revs go up but continue to click at the same frequency. It starts fast and stays fast.
When accelerating it sounds like it goes away for a second but comes back as soon as you maintain speed
Its almost impossible to hear if your not inside the cab
And I cannot notice it affecting driving conditions at all, my mpg is good, idles well, runs great while cold

    Thanks for any help

Rescued a Dodge Dakota tonight who had placed his whole front end in a drainage ditch
He said, "here, hook on with my chain"
I said, "Why don't I just use my winch?"
"Holy crap, you have a winch?"
"Let's put it this way, you met the right person"

Not sounding like anything I know or have heard of. Where does the clicking sound like it is coming from? Are you able to get the clicking to happen with hood open and truck in park/neutral?

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
My FIL has one... and has had it since it was new. He also just bought a Durango to go with it. Same color. Same year. Same everything except no 4x4.

My old man still has his 2002 Dakota with the V8. Still running strong with something like 235,000 on it (he used to commute from Everett to Bellingham 4 days a week).

Very hard to hear unless your in the cab then it's prett apparent. Sound like it's coming from the drivers side but is really hard to tell where is coming from when the hood is up. I cannot hear it while it's in neutral until I bring the revs up to 2400 or so. The clicking is VERY fast, like 3 to 4 a second. My truck is a 2004 v6 and its new to me so this just may be normal engine noise but it does seem destincly different from the engine.

looked like it was his weekend Home Depot vehicle. I didn't get to check the damage; he hauled out of there as soon as we had the winch spooled back in. I wasn't sure if that's because he had to be somewhere or if it was an embarrassment thing. I was just pumped I had something interesting to do on the way home.

Point of it is that if it is clicking while not moving, but based on engine speed, that leads to looking toward engine for the noise. I think most of us here have second gen Tacomas with the 4.0 v6, not the first gen like you have with 3.4 v6. If you have time, trying asking in the first gen section. If you don't have time, Google shops in your area and read online reviews.

this is pretty off topic but is anyone here a sportscar guy? im looking for another car. my girl friend only works 5 minutes from home, so im thinking she starts driving the 4runner and i find something a little more fun to drive into downtown everyday.

i dont really know this world so im not sure what the tacoma equivalent would be in value/reliability (a camry maybe?). so far ive looked at mazda 6s but they arent awd. just seeing what your guys fun/sport/commuter type of choice would be

Honestly, that sounds like some kind of driveline issue if its that fast and goes away under power.

The problem with anything that is designed to be fast or handle well in Seattle area is all the other dumbf*cks blocking the roads. I had a first gen matrix XRS with the 180 hp high rev 4 cylinder and 6 speed manual. It surprised a lot of people at being quick, but over 100mph it just didn't have the torque. Ben from Idaho has a toyorabu (scion frs), and he told me that he doesn't have the high speed, but going into turns, he doesn't really slow down. I have loved the looks of Nissan 350z, and 370z, and was seeing a lot of them still on the roads when I lived over that way. Evos are fun, but liable to break on you. Are you looking for RWD or AWD? Audi makes well handling cars, but you use them for 5 years and move on before the German issues kick in.

My friend wanted something like that, and he was split between an FRS or a WRX. He decided the FRS had better daily manners while still having a fun factor, while the WRX was always "riding the bull". I'm not saying those are the only choices, but a good, interesting way of looking at things. He bought the FRS, but part of him still wants the WRX. I would say if you have plans for a family, a WRX has a back seat for baby seats ;)

if you want to be more exotic, there's some place in Virginia that sells Japanese imports from the 80s/90s with low miles around the $12k price, such as GTRS, Supras, 180SX, Civic Type R, etc. I think the name was Japanese Car Connection.

The only fun Audi now is the R8, if you can afford one.
I had one of these -> C5 RS6 while living in San Diego, CA; moved to Seattle, WA and all the hippie liberal Prius lovin' hybrid dip$hits on the road made it impossible to drive over 62mph. Sensing a road rage potential event in the future, I sold it and got the Yeti. Much happier. Agreed on the "german issues kick in" as a timing belt change was $2k every 40k miles. Brake job at dealership was $3.5k, or $1k if I did it myself. Fun car only if you know how to wrench on it. There is nothing quite like a V8 twin turbo AWD under the hood.

i was also looking at some A4's. i dont know much about audi and to be honest i thought i would get a little bit of some hate on here for that lol. from what you guys are saying it doesnt sound like its a good idea to get a late model used. i saw some pretty clean '14 A4 and a few s4 that were older ('10-'11) they all had around 11-30k miles. the other thing is i have no idea what all these different trims are.

i pretty much only change my oil, so i was planning on getting a warranty, especially if it was a newer model. i just didnt want to have to bother with maintenance.

the japanese car thing sounds awesome, but im not sure if im motivated/knowledgeable to upkeep an older car like that. and no plans for a family soon..this is my one chance to get a 2door....

i was also looking at a volvo s60 and a 3series wagon. still just starting my search and trying to get an idea of what people have heard/learned through experience with some of these cars

My old lady got a IS 350 F-Sport AWD and it is extremely fun to drive, plus Toyota reliability.
